Recently someone started a thread on a.r.s. about a possible connection between Scientology and Coca-Cola, as claimed on one of the Church's webpages:
The picture in question: <http:// www.lronhubbardprofile.org/ p_jpg/twth3.htm>
While corporate relationships can be intriguing, they aren't my thing. I wouldn't have looked at this page without further prompting. South Africa again! My, how the Church loves to boast of its "big wins" in South Africa! From that "Coke" page:
The Way to Happiness
Internationally, Mr. Hubbard's The Way to Happiness has also proven a significant catalyst for positive change. In the South African black township of Soweto, for example, a campaign based on the precept "Safeguard and Improve Your Environment" was supported by the largest food chain in the country and two major labor unions, after distribution of The Way to Happiness was found to have dramatically improved community relations. As one resident explained, "The rate of violence has decreased so much that we now know how to sit down together and share our views. This relationship comes from your wonderful booklets." Still another campaign in the South African city of Pietermaritzburg proved highly successful in easing racial tensions. Consequently, the South African police requested 114,000 copies of The Way to Happiness booklet—one for every policeman in the country.
This is the same bit of braggadocio that Rena Weinburg (current President of A.B.L.E.) wrote about in the Scientology magazine Impact 10 years ago, portions of which were posted on a.r.s. (and elsewhere) in the thread "Soweto Riots Anniversary".
Have you read "The Way To Happiness" booklet? It's online at <http:// www.thewaytohappiness.org/>. It presents and discusses 21 precepts in Hubbard's inimitable style (tortuous grammar and all):
According to the CoS, just READING this booklet prevents violence, cures drug addiction, and reforms hardened criminals. Never mind that large portions of humankind have been reading the Ten Commandments for 3,500 years and social ills still exist, it took L. Ron Hubbard and his stultifying imitation to bring us the "tech" to save civilization. God bless Ron!
Returning to the "Coke" webpage, Scientology's "data" there are OLD: the Church's "big wins" in Soweto occurred 10 years or more ago, assuming they occurred at all. I want to know what the Church has done in South Africa LATELY. Perhaps they've distributed more "The Way To Happiness" booklets to quell the factional violence in KwaZulu-Natal (was that their Pietermaritzburg campaign)? Or maybe they helped write the new constitution, basing it on the one produced by Hubbard in 1966 for Rhodesia? Have they submitted their official statement to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission detailing how tirelessly they fought apartheid? No?
Wankers.
