May 9, 1998 - Gregg Hagglund
The Toronto Contingent of the ARSCC {wdne} ran a highly
successful picket today at the dwindling Toronto Org on
Yonge St.
The weather was sunny and hot and the Picket was
scheduled to run from 10am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 5pm.
The local Sps offered two shifts:
10am- 1pm Gregg, Artemis, Wulfen, Deep Wog, Slippery JiM
2pm- 5pm Gregg, Artemis, Deep Wog, Slippery JiM
Flyer Count:
900 RXspecials
(with Co$ Criminal Conviction on the reverse.)
We closed the Picket early at 4 pm as we had run out of
flyers.
The Picket started off with a meeting between myself and
the "rented" Constable the Co$ was forced to hire for our
Picket.
I outlined our game plans for the demo as to traffic flow
and showed him some of the obstructive tactics used by the
Co$ at the last Demo. Tactics that ultimately forced them
into the position of expending $322.00 to "rent" and off
duty Cop to atttend the Picket.
The Constable had been well briefed and said that he would
not tolerate such actions from the Co$. He'd read our Picket
Advsiory and now approved of out Demo plan for traffic and
conversation areas.
This was amongst the tamest and busiest of Pickets we
have ever done. Busy in the speed with which we handed
out flyers and tame as to the activities of the Body Routers.
There was sidewalk construction going on on Yonge just
north of the Org, but only for the first half of the Picket.
This is the main direction foot traffic comes from. Most
Pedestrians diverted around this at first, but once they
began hearing what we were shouting and MegaPhoning
they recrossed Yonge to get a flyer.
The Body Routers spent the day Routing for the Org but
across the street. A few intermitent BRs hung on at the
Org and shared the sidewalk with us, but they were
miserable at it.
Buttnor was hiding in the Org for the whole enterprise
leaving Mario essentially in charge. Mario set up the
E-Meter demo table and then discovered that all he had to
demo with was a beat up Mark 5. The staff was heard trying
to find a Mark 7 somewhere in the Org, but apparently no
other e-meter was on site. Talk about downstat!
Flyers literally evaporated into the constant and fairly busy
traffic flow.
Early on Slippery Jim and I fell into a vocal routine;
We would alternately tone 40:
"Canada's only criminally
convicted Church: Scientology!"
"Banned in Greece!"
"Under Observation in Germany
for Totalarian and
anti-democratic activities!"
"Listed as a Psycho-Sect in
Italy!" "Raided in Madrid,
Munich, and Moscow!"
"Raided here in Toronto, Tried
and Convicted!"
"For Criminal Breach of the
public Trust!"
"Canada's only criminally
convicted Church: Scientology"
etc.
Also effective was:
"Rosenberg Rules! Ontario Court finds Scientology Guilty! Guilty! Guilty!"
And other happy variations.
The day went without incident of signifigance and at the
end, out of flyers, we called it early at just after 4 pm.
The Constable told us we were very 'professional'. He did
have to speak to a couple of newer Co$ BRs who were a tad
aggressive early on, but nothing that a few words didn't
resolve.
We were At Cause over the Org again.
Good show by all the wogs! The People and Tourists in
Toronto universally loved our presence and thanked us.
Poor Co$ Toronto. I wonder what it is like to be so
overwhelmingly disapproved of?
