You know, I don't remember if I had posted this. It might help if there was a decent header, then we could decide whether it was a forgery or not.

Then again, the State of Oregon does not recognize email as a recognizeable medium legal communications. Printed mail delivered by the US Postal Department -- or even better, Certified Post -- is the only way to make a legal threat that this State will recognize. Hopefully by a lawyer who can practice in this State, too.

I have no idea if this is actually Ms Kobrin, or someone trolling me. Gee, after posting to this group off amp; on for a year & ahalf I'm getting attention from the lawyers of this criminal organization.

Well David Miscavige hides his skills well. While I've been offline from the Internet for the last two weeks (1) (has it truly been that long? My, time flies under a pleasant tropical sun;), I noticed a sudden increase of calls from various pay phones in the Portland area. This is of interest because I *rarely* get calls from pay phones -- & when I have, they have been from a certain person who was likewise busy & away from Portland.

I think there is a correlation between these mysterious calls & someone posting a certain document under my name. I honestly have no other explanation for this.

Here are the facts:

I'm usually a little less quick about accusing the CoS of harassment, but I have no other explanation for all of these calls. Did someone think I needed to be "handled"? Was I supposed to be "shuddered into silence"? Do these people think that by making menacing calls to an empty house while the owner is elsewhere engaged in a hollowed Second Dynamic legal ritual is Workable Tech?

Ankle-biters. The CoS is no longer a threat to society, but is reduced to a gang of ankle-biters who are beginning to lose their entertainment value.

(1) And why was I offline for two weeks? The curious reader is directed to study the headers of this post. And is allowed to wonder if I spent most of that time on an island named Kauai with a certain female. And if the reader has been able to unravel my cryptic style of explaining things (3), he or she may then wonder if I was able to visit certain powerful sites of "theta". The answer is no: I only had a brief stopover & was unable to scout out what must be the most attractive locale for a picket in the world.

(2) How do I know all of this? By means of an amazing SP Tech invention that I rent from US West for a trivial sum every month. With this device, I have managed to avoid telemarketers & other scum of the earth.

Today I received the 2nd e-mail from the cult of Scientology lawyer in the Netherlands over the "Flag Orders" - which alleged internal Scientology documents showed imo a clear case of child neglect in the cult - and they maintain that a hyperlink on one of my pages to "infringing" Scientology cult documents on the Internet is in effect also an infringement on my part, or at least unlawfully towards his Scientology cult clients (RTC/CST/NEPI).

I've again put forward that such a claim is not acceptable for me. So if the Scientology cult doesn't change its position than we'll meet in court I am afraid. I know of better things to do with my time and money but this is something I must fight for. I feel that my freedom is at stake. I notice that the San Jose Mercury News has not retracted a libelous statement that it printed on May 14, 1998 that falsely said that a federal judge had found that I had infringed the copyright of the "church of scientology" at the end of its story titled "Church's Secrets Violated." In fact it continues to "serve" the story upon a search of its database online at mercurycenter.com.

I timely served a retraction noticed upon the publisher as required California Civil Code § 48a and faxed and mailed a additional one upon the editor, but the only response I ever got was more abuse in a phone call initiated by Howard Mintz on May 15, 1998 (the reporter of the story.)

Obviously falsely reporting that I had broken the law is a prima facie libel. The gratuitous abuse by Mintz just makes me think there exists actual malice behind the reported lie.

Don't ask me why the Mercury thinks it can materially lie about people with impunity; I guess it thinks that I lack the will to set things right. I wonder in deposition whether it will be revealed that a representative of the criminal cult of scientology "informed" Mintz of the false statement?

Religious Freedom Journey & Rally for Truth

Those of you who joined us at our "Break Down the Wall of Intolerance!" demonstration in Berlin, Germany, last October will recall that intention alone enabled us to blast through all the blocks and barriers erected by the Berlin government to try to stop our event.

The following day, right in the city of Berlin, one of the highest courts in the land, the Federal Administrative Supreme Court, convened before handing down one of the most decisive victories ever for Scientology in Germany! In Berlin, we pledged to keep coming back to Germany until the German government stops violating the rights of Scientologists and members of minority religions.

While we have made significant headway, suppressive government officials have continued to dramatize and to try to stop people from going free. Therefore our next big rally will be held in Frankfurt on Monday, 10th of August. It will culminate into the biggest single promotional action we have even done in Germany, completely bypassing the stops of the government and putting our message of truth directly into the hands of the German people!

To build momentum to the big event and at the same time create mountains of publicity and goodwill, a 6 week journey on foot across Europe will take place. The 'ho has emailed me about the "Heaven" HCOB and claimed copyright on behalf of her client. At long last! They have been denying this was by El Blubbo for years. Confirmation of it would of course smash apart the myth that Scientology is compatible with Christianity as claimed in the WIS? book. Could someone please check the registration number she supplied and find out whether it covers the one HCOB or a whole load of them.

The Church of Scientology has launched a countrywide personal attack against a University of Alberta professor who has publicly criticized some of their practices.

Sociology professor Stephen Kent was the subject of a scathing article in a 16-page Church of Scientology supplement entitled Freedom that was distributed with the Globe and Mail newspaper Friday.

In the two-page article, Kent is compared to well-known neo-Nazi hatemongerer Ernst Zundel and is referred to "as the academic point man for the voices of hate against new religions."

The article also questions the validity of Kent's academic research and suggests he should be disqualified from receiving any more government research grants.

"Freedom of speech demands that Stephen Kent be permitted to hold his unorthodox views of religion, in the same vein that Ernst Zundel does," the article states. "But his support of discrimination and intolerance which has led to human-rights violations and even violence - in Germany as well as in Canada - should disqualify him totally from any government support or funding."

The attack appears to be related to Kent's work as an expert witness for a German parliamentary committee. Many German government officials believe Scientology is not a religion, but rather a business based on what they perceive as dangerous totalitarian ideology In response, the government ordered close monitoring of the organization while a commission gathers information about its activities in Germany and around the world.

Kent travelled to Germany three times last summer to speak to German legislators and mainstream church groups about Scientology practices, including forced labour and a form of brainwashing.

Kent expected some kind of attack from Scientology for his work in Germany.

"Scientology has policies, which are public and well known, to undertake character assassination against their perceived enemies and this article is simply a demonstration of that Scientology policy," said Kent, adding that he was never interviewed for the article, and that it doesn't quote from any of his published work.

"They can't quote anything from my work that would suggest I propagate hate against new religious groups because I never have. I am not a religious bigot. These are libellous allegations that have no substance in reality," Kent said.

Kent said he's being attacked for two reasons. The first is because he acted as a consultant to the German government, which is about to publish its findings on sectarian and psychological groups that are "probably going to be very critical of Scientology and its probable human-rights abuses.

"The second reason is that I am the most vocal academic in the world when it comes to discussing issues of Scientology's probable human-rights abuses."

Kent has been the target of Scientology attacks in the past. In September, Scientologists picketed at the University of Alberta and formally accused Kent of harassment.

The university rejected the accusation and defended Kent's right to academic freedom.

Doug Owram, the University of Alberta's academic vice-president, said the university fully stands behind Kent and his research. Kent's work on Scientology is peer reviewed and meets all internal scholarly guidelines.

The university will probably not respond to the article.

"We've seen these sorts of attacks before and to get into a mud-slinging match with them goes nowhere," Owram said. "I guess people will just have to judge the reputation of the Church of Scientology versus Stephen Kent and the University of Alberta. I'm not terribly concerned about the outcome."

I doubt very much that the posting of one page from a 450 page work, itself part of a 12 volume set, constitutes sufficient use to be a violation. Especially considering that the document posted, unlike NOTs 34, is of no financial value to myself, RTC, or anybody else, and is strictly a matter of historical interest. And certainly it isn't comparable to the posting of a near book-length excerpt by Arnie.

Like NOTs 34, it is also possibly an illegal instruction. Such a direct order to work against a certain candidate by the head of a 501c3 organization would certainly be illegal today. Whether it was at the time it was written, I have no idea.

Of course I doubt even more that RTC or any of its minions owns or has ever owned legitimate copyrights to this or any other portion of LRH's works, based on actual transfers signed by Ron without any 'assistance' from David Miscavige or Pat Broeker. There is a complete lack of credible evidence that LRH ever designated RTC or CST to represent him in any way, and that very lack strongly suggests that it never happened. If the RTC could produce genuine authorizations or endorsements from Hubbard, why on earth would it produce forged ones instead? However, I do not at present have the $2m or so it would take to make this point in a US court.

Even though it is very improbable that the post in question is a vio- lation of even more improbable copyrights, the quote is extensive enough, with little added commentary, that the point is debatable. I prefer as a practical matter, not to be engaged in anything which carries even the slightest doubt of legal propriety in my critical activity. Since I am already fully qualified for Fair Game targeting, I see no reason to give the criminal group any remotely valid grounds to attack me.

I will not remove the posting myself, for the simple reason that the fairly crude News clients I run (Netscape 3 & 4) don't seem to have the ability to cancel a post already sent. I tried it last night in Collabra (the Communicator news reader) and got an error. However, if our friend the Cancelbunny or anyone else wishes to do so, I make no objection.

A week ago I visited another I.A.S. briefing. They plan to do a "crusade" in July and August, with someone running and carrying a torch. The route is England, Den Haag ( Netherlands ), Paris, Geneve ( Switzerland ), Innsbruck ( Austria ), and 3 German cities ( Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt ). They plan to do a big public demonstration with 10.000 to 20.000 Scientologists from all over the world in Frankfurt, on August 10. Then further activities are planned, some of which are still secret and were not told to the audience of that briefing. But they mentioned this : after the demo the 10.000 + Scn members are to enter busses and to drive across all Germany ; they are to distribute 5 million freedom magazines. These mags will attack some German politicians who are against Scn. This will occurr about 1 months before the elections for the German parliament. It is done with the stated intention to discredit these politicians and have them fail to be re-elected. That's how "un-political" the Co$ is !

Tonight, I decided to park my car and take a walk around the Scientology property on Sunset to watch the ongoing dress rehearsals for tomorrow night's July 4th event. The area is now ringed with security, uniformed and plainclothes, aided by teenage Sea Org members. L. Ron Hubbard Way is blocked off, and musicians are currently performing while TV cameras on booms move about filming the musicians on stage, which can be seen by 2 large TV monitors position on the stage ends.

While stopping on LRH Way, I was approached by a South American Scientologist who asked if I lived in the area and invited me to the big South American party that was to take place tomorrow night. He told me famous celebrities would be making appearances but declined to tell me who. He pulled out a flyer for the event to show me, said I could read it and return it to him. If I wanted a copy, he said, I could enter the Scientology building and get one. (I declined). Taking my time to read his flyer as he nervously paced about, he said I could keep the copy and he quickly walked away back towards the stage, as I noticed a young Sea Org cadet sprinting across the street to the Kaiser Hospital side.

As I walked west on Sunset along Scientology's parking lot, I observed a white tarp covering the fence the length of Sunset Blvd. where you cannot see in. At the intersection of Sunset & Catalina Avenue (which runs along the west side of the property), two adults and several young children were steadily digging holes in the ground (to plant shrubbery?). I thought it very odd that children in their early teens would be digging holes at 11:00PM on a weeknight. As I stood there watching them dig holes, a gentleman walked up behind me asking me if he could help me. "No", I said, "I'm just watching them work". The man said "Do you live around here?" I told him I lived in the area. "What street do you live on?" he said. I told him for someone that didn't know me, he asked alot of questions and it was none of his business and began a casual walk west on Sunset stopping at the 4852 building/ashram next door of Paramahansa Yogananda's Self-Realization Hellowship. While looking in the window at the book display, I noticed my inquisitive guest watching me from the corner of Catalina talking into a walkie-talkie. As I turned towards him, he motioned something to the Sea Org member across the street, so I walked to the corner, crossed the street and approached this young man in Sea Org drag. The young man quickly walked away and then bolted across the street back to LRH Way.

I walked east on Sunset to the Kaiser Hospital parking entrance, parallel to LRH Way, and sat down on a concrete wall to watch the dress rehearsal performance taking place on stage. As a man with a guitar sang ballads, and the TV cameras on booms swayed, I was again approached by a nervously twitching man who asked me (surprise!) "if I lived in the area". I told him I lived in Hollywood, was driving by, say the dress rehearsal going on and decided to watch it. The man proceeded to inform me that it was a "private rehearsal". I educated the dimwit to the difference between Scientology turf and public property (where I was entrenched) and I had no intentions of going anywhere. As I tried to ignore the twit, he said "You're Garry Scarff aren't you"? I said "Damn, you guys are fast". The Scientologist told me I had been spotted before driving on Fountain and parking my car on New Hampshire. I told him it's too bad it wasn't Wednesday night, or he could've turned in some brownie points for the 2PM stats that were due today. I informed the man I would be returning tomorrow night and accompanying a press crew on Saturday to the event. After 5 minutes of watching a performer sing "Rolling..rolling..rolling" over and over and over again, I departed the area, walked to my car where a uniformed FLAG security guard was riding on his bike not 20 feet behind, and drove from the area.

It should be a great place to be tomorrow night, boys and girls!! For some strange reason, the Scientologists are real edgy.......

I spoke with Graham Berry tonight who informed me that Eugene Ingram is eating crow over a major DA blew up in his face yesterday. Eugene Ingram attempted to add a feather to his cap by capitalizing on his long-enduring mission to "out" Graham Berry in public as a pedophile. Aside from his law practice, Graham Berry volunteers his time & efforts to a charity that raises money for Children Living with HIV/AIDS. Ingram, through his creative efforts, managed to get his hands on a list of contributors to the charity. Ingram also attained a list of 300+ registered sex offenders that California police agencies have on file. Comparing the last names of the contributors to the last names of registered sex offenders, Ingram twisted the hat and deliberately misrepresented 17 cotnributors to the children's charity as being "sex offenders".

With his associates in tow, a Los Angeles attorney named R. Steingard, a candidate for the LA County School Board and an Assemblyman, Ingram and his cohorts called a News Conference yesterday to denounced the "17 pedophiles", while the Assemblyman openly announced in the presence of television crews and news reporters that "Graham Berry is a self-admitted pedophile". The Assemblyman also denounced as lies that Ingram had a history of criminal behavior and arrest warrants existed for him. After Berry distributed information packs on Eugene Ingram, they quickly realized the sham that they had fallen for.

Resultingly, no televison news stations made mention of the Press Conference. The LA Times was appalled and refused to write about it. Meanwhile, Berry is preparing legal action against Ingram and his two cohorts, whose denouncements were videotaped by several news stations.

Today, Eugene Ingram threatened Graham Berry.

Vienna (OTS) - The "Marathon for Religious Freedom," which was organized by the Scientology Church, started on June 25 in England. Moslems, Jews, Christians, Scientologists and leading human rights activists are participating [in the marathon], which is already a great success. The run, which will go through eight European countries, will end on August 10 in Frankfurt with a big demonstration for religious freedom, at which celebrities, as well as several thousand visitors, are expected [to attend].

The marathon and the demonstration for religious freedom are being held on occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the general declaration of human rights. Leisa Goodman, human rights expert of the Church of Scientology International, said that the six week series of events is also meant to remind European opinion leaders of the meaning of religious freedom - of a time in which repressive governmental measures undermined the declaration's ideals of tolerance and human rights.

The marathon began on June 25 in England, and will run through cities in Holland, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Germany, and will culminate in a march in Frankfurt on August 10 with several thousand people.

Participants in the Marathon for Religious Freedom include runners from all of Europe. They will be carrying a torch for freedom while they are in the most important transaction points for human rights in Europe - such as the International Court for Human Rights in the Hague, UNESCO in France, and the United Nations in Geneva. Banner bearers from these cities will sign a proclamation which calls for religious freedom.

Leisa Goodman said that the German government's mass hysteria against new religious movements was the reason for growing intolerance of individual governments in Europe. German state and federal administrations have excluded Scientologists from civil service and political parties. They are violently attacked, their businesses are put on blacklists by the administration, their children are harassed and thrown out of schools and kindergartens; artists are prevented from performing by government officials when it becomes known that they are Scientologists. In the past five years international human rights committees, including those of the United States, the human rights commission of the United Nations and the Commission for Security and Cooperation in Europe have published a total of 19 reports which sharply criticize the German government for religious discrimination.

Austrians will also participate in the marathon for religious freedom. 500 participants from Austria are expected at the final demonstration in Frankfurt. The highlight of the demonstration will be the address and unveiling of a public work by Perli Pelzig, the Jewish artist.

1. Ethical christmas trees

Ethical Christmas Trees (ECTs) are Christmas trees of natural origin or manufactured Christmas trees looking like natural trees, which are set up on christmas in org rooms.

2. Setting up ECTs

Ethical Christmas Trees may be set up only from ethical personnel on the order of their senior. The senior has to make certain that

a) the ECT is brought with its lower end (also called "thick end") into a receptacle suitable for the accommodation of the ECT and that the ECT is properly fastened in it

b) the mounting plate of the ECT is wedged in such a manner that it is standing perpendicularly to the ground. In difficult cases a second staff member is to be consulted, who will monitor the correct placement, with Tone 40 orders like "more left!", "more on the right!"

c) in the "falling down" area of the ECT no fragile devices or devices harmed by a possible fall are to be located. (e.g. e-meters, tape recorders)

3. Setting up the lighting

The ECT is to be provided with christmas objects according to the orders of the senior. Christmas tree lighting resulting from a combustion (so-called "candles") are only to be used when

a) the staff members are instructed on the dangers of fire blazes (Ref: Introduction to scientology Ethics, "The responsibility of leaders", page 261)

and

b) during the combustion time a staff member instructed in fire fighting is standing nearby with a fire extinguisher.

4. Crib plays and Christmas Carols

In orgs with sufficient personnel, crib plays can be arranged under the direction of an experienced senior.

For this, the following hats are to be assigned:

Mary: preferably a female or female looking person
Joseph: older staff member with beard
Child: small staff member or freshly recruited member
Donkey and sheep: suitable staff members from different departments
Holy three kings: three ethics officers

To start the singing of christmas carols, the staff members form a circle around the ECT under the guidance of the ED. Available gifts from non disconnected relatives are to be distributed by a staff member in a "Santa Claus" uniform.

The Founding Church of Scientology in Washington, D.C. in the United States is throwing a big event on August 10 at the Frankfurt opera house. The "Freedom for Religions in Germany" movement, which comes about under the direction of Scientology, wants to put 10,000 demonstrators on stage this day in Frankfurt.

The announced "Assembly for Religious Freedom" is directed against the German government. The activists accuse the administration of persecuting religious minorities and their adherents.

The German officials do not judge Scientology to be a religious system of beliefs, but a strongly profit-oriented commercial business. This powerful belief business is suspected of pursuing goals hostile to the constitution.

On the occasion of this "historical meeting" (as stated by the Church of Scientology of Washington), 2,000 Scientologists from the USA will fly to Germany. The organizers state that its participants will include members of other religions, as well.

The Frankfurt City Office stated that the meeting was scheduled with them. Permission to hold the event will not be denied because the authorities do not see any direct endangerment to public security.

In July of last year about 1,500 people appeared under Scientology direction at the same place for the same reason, to demonstrate for "religious tolerance." Celebrity artists such as actress Anne Archer and musician Isaac Hayes appeared then.

6. Talon Investigator Martin determined the car that Gerald David Armstrong rented on December 15th, 1997, was identified by Nevada license plate number 183HVA. It was a 1997 Toyota owned by Team Fleet Financing Corp (Budget Rental Car).

7. Investigator Martin was also informed by the Budget Rental agent on December 27, 1997, that Gerald David Armstrong frequently rented from them and had always used the same Californa address in all previous times he rented from them.

I parked my car and posed as a passerby and asked one of the women why they were picketing. Same old anti-German rhetoric. She invited me to come on Thursday morning when she said that over 100 people would be picketing the Consulate.

On April 4, 1995, Jeffrey George Quiros, an OSA agent for the criminal cult of scientology, along with another scientologist, Ray Beeninga, trespassed at my home in Arcata, CA. OSA agent Quiros traveled over 200 miles and without any prior warning camped on my doorstep midday Friday when it could reasonably be calculated that only my wife and/or children would be at home.

They did not leave the property when asked repeatedly. Even threatened with the police they did not leave.

I finally *did* call the police and filed police report 95-1322 which the Arcata police filed under "suspicious circumstances." Quiros admitted he was an official church representative sent out to "handle" the "problem."

The cult was warned by the police not to repeat its visit.

The trip was obviously planned to intimidate me and my family.

Obviously, like Helena Kobrin's RMGROUP, it didn't work.

Bob Minton is on the road, but I can forward some information regarding the radio show on WRKO. Scientologists showed up in the offices of the station to protest their exclusion from the broadcast. The producer said they were completely out of line and behaved badly, rudely demanding to be put on the air. But they did have a chilling effect on the discussion, which was limited to the tresspassing incident. It was planned to be more far-ranging. A follow-up broadcast is under discussion.

Leaflets were apparently distributed at a local supermarket today, spreading DA about Bob. The complete text is not known at this time. One statement from Scientologists is that they know Stacy was topless at the pool because they could see her bare shoulders. Stacy was wearing a modest bathing suit, but it does have bare shoulders.

They have filed statements with the local police, and are attempting to get the locals to prosecute Bob for something. Bob could prosecute them for criminal tresspass, but does not intend to press charges unless charges are pressed against him. No more details on the prowler they had last night.

More as it happens.

Maybe they heard that a particular on-camera interview took place yesterday on the roof of a building looking out over the Celebrity Center/Manor Hotel (sorry Mike, your goons were not successful in interfering with the interview and it did not involve Mr. Reichelt).

Frankfurt am Main (dpa) - Several thousand adherents of the Scientology organization have demonstrated for religious freedom in Frankfurt am Main on Monday after a European march.

According to a statement by the police, there were about 6,500 people at the protest until evening. Representatives of Scientology said it was 8,000 people. The 3,000 kilometer march began in England on June 25.

At the demonstration, the participants demanded that all forms of religious discrimination be ended. Scientology brought up 19 notifications by governments and human rights organizations which they say confirmed a climate of intolerance in Germany. According to the Scientology statement, signers of the proclamation included several members of the European Parliament.

The Marathon was accompanied by Irving Sarnoff, the founder of the organization, "Friends of the United Nations." The German government also signed the human rights [declaration] said Sarnoff, who says that he is not a member of Scientology. "We have come here to remind them of it." However, he agrees with the sect in his criticism that the German administration reduces the rights of members of smaller religions. According to Scientology's presentation, its 30,000 members are persecuted in Germany, and they suffer disadvantages in the work place.

Religious freedom is one of the most valuable commodities of humanity. Every form of suppression always begins with the censorship of belief.

Yesterday in Frankfurt, several thousand persons demonstrated for "religious freedom." They were adherents of the Scientology church, the organization whose dangerous influence, as sect commissioners warn, has already begun to extend into politics, associations and businesses. Brainwashing, psychological terrorism, defamation, spying on citizens and commercial exploitation are trademarks of the fanatic salvation ideology of the psycho-sect. It mostly appears wearing silent soled shoes. Yesterday it marched boldly under the protective cover of the martyr of the Old Opera house in order to demand the right to "religious freedom" for itself.

They had taken the freedom to demonstrate - including the a rally in front of the opera house. How is it possible that a legally notorious organization which is under surveillance by domestic intelligence, which according to the Federal Labor Court is not a church, but a commercial enterprise, may claim this right for themselves?

Thousands of people have moved to Frankfurt involuntarily - people who left their country because of persecution for their beliefs. They left goods and possessions behind, and have suffered in body and spirit. To them, the Scientology demonstration is a cynical insult.

GERMANY HOSTS SCIENTOLOGY DEMONSTRATION

On August 10, 1998, Germany hosted the largest ever Scientology demonstration for freedom of religion in Germany. This year's demonstration was in Frankfurt, and with 6,500 participants, had double the number of Scientologists and co-demonstrators as did last year's demo in Berlin.

Last year John Travolta appeared via satellite, and Isaac Hayes appeared in person. This year these leading Scientologists kept a lower profile, which may have been due to prior commitments. However, only three days earlier, a bill had been introduced in the United States House of Representatives to chastise Germany for religious persecution of Scientologists.

Contrary to reports which have been circulated in the United States, it is illegal in Germany to either eavesdrop on Scientologists or to open their mail. The Scientology organization is under observation by the German administration, and is regarded as a commercial business there, the same as it had been in the US for the twenty years prior to 1993.

There are 2.5 million Moslems in Germany who have 1,200 mosques and prayer halls. Apparently not all of them are recognized as a religion.

Frankfurt/Vienna (OTS) - During a protest march which took place on August 10 in Frankfurt, and in which several thousand people of various faiths participated, representatives of both acknowledged and unacknowledged religious communities released an open letter in which they announced the establishment of an "Interreligious Coalition for Religious Freedom" in Germany.

The coalition, which was founded by Scientologists, Moslems, Jews, Sikhs and the Unification Church, has made their goal the end of the spread of the climate of religious intolerance in Germany, and has punctuated a better future on the basis of mutual respect and tolerance.

The coalition indicates in their open letter that "this problem by far does not only concern every religious community which is generally calumniated as a "sect," but also every religion that generally enjoys recognition as a world religion."

Ladies and Gentlemen,

On August 10, 1998, in Frankfurt, a peaceful protest march brought religions of varying backgrounds together for religious freedom.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the General Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations, we, the undersigned, wish to point out the spreading climate of intolerance, discrimination and unequal treatment of religious minorities in Germany. At the same time we would like to punctuate a better future on the basis of mutual respect and tolerance.

We would like to make it clear from this place that this problem by far does not only concern every religious community which is generally calumniated as a "sect," but also every religion that generally enjoys recognition as a world religion, but in Germany however presents a minority and therefore is confronted with similar prejudices and mechanisms as the newer religious communities.

It is our desire to put religious freedom and the ideal of the German Basic Law on a wider plane. The German republic should be the standard in regards to independence rights not only in Europe but also internationally.

For this reason the undersigned have decided to found the "Interreligious Coalition for Religious Freedom."

I've noticed that the CO$ is picketing the German Consulate on Wilshire at Crescent Heights. Those of you who are active in fighting the cult might want to check this out, it seems to be in the morning 8 to 9. Many of the pickets have signs mounted on wooden sticks. This means they are brandishing a weapon, as the police consider any sort of rod, stick, or pole to be club. During the Gulf War protesters with such signs had their signs confiscated by the police.

Also if you counter-protest, and someone with a stick mounted sign confronts you, you can claim that you where threaten with a weapon, and press criminal charges.

Also in light of the recent embassy bombing, the police might not want armed protesters in front of a foreign consulate, especially from a group with a terrorist background like CO$.

U.S. Congress

A bill was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives this week, asking the President ot criticize Germany for alleged discrimination against religious minorities, including Scientology.

"Whereas the January 1998 interim report of the State Department's Advisory Committee on Religious Freedom Abroad specifically stated that, '[i]n Germany, members of the Church of Scientology and of a Christian charismatic church have been subject to intense scrutiny by the Enquete Commission there, and several members have suffered harassment, discrimination, and threats of violence';

"Whereas in February 1997, a United States Federal Immigration Judge granted a German woman asylum in the United States finding that she had a well-founded fear of persecution based on her religious beliefs if she returned to Germany;

"Whereas the 1997 and 1996 State Department Country Reports stated that 'major political parties exclude Scientologists from membership', and that 'the State of Bavaria screens applicants for state civil service positions for Scientology membership';

"Whereas the 1996 State Department Country Report stated that 'Business firms whose owners or executives are Scientologists may face boycotts and discrimination, sometimes with government approval,' and, the 1997 Country Report stated that 'so-called 'sect-filters', statements by individuals that they are not affiliated with Scientology , are used by some business and other organizations to discriminate against Scientologists in business and social dealings';

"Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That the Congress urges the Government of Germany to take necessary action to protect the right of freedom of religion or belief guaranteed to everyone in Germany by international human rights covenants to which Germany is a signatory; continues to hold the Government of Germany responsible for protecting the right of freedom of religion or belief of United States citizens, and for not barring such citizens from living, performing, doing business, or traveling in Germany because of their religious beliefs; and calls upon the President of the United States to assert the concern of the United States Government to the Government of Germany regarding government discrimination in Germany based on religion or belief."

CCHR Radio

Mark Dallara reported on a radio show in the Tampa area which features members of Scientology's Citizen's Commission on Human Rights.

"The 'Citizen's Commission on Human Rights' has a leased radio show on TAN-TALK: http://www.tantalk1340.com/ The host of the program is Dennis Clarke (I think he said he is the Chairman of the Executive Board of CCHR). The guest was John Lott, Jr., a law lecturer (not faculty) at the University of Chicago. The topic was gun control; Lott has written a book called 'More Guns, Less Crime'.

"Clarke pretty enthusiastically accepted this concept, and then slowly but surely turned the course of the conversation to crime in general, and somehow fumbled his way to a conclusion that psychiatric drugs not only cause all crime, but especially all mass murders. Mr. Lott is apparently not a Co$ dupe, because he wasn't buying what Clarke was selling. He rebutted by saying that yes, there are some anecdotal stories of mental health drugs causing tragic events, but there are also anecdotal stories of guns causing tragic events, and the proper way to evaluate the data is to look at the totality of the statistics and ask whether a thing does more harm than good. He even went so far as to say that the drugs in question save many more lives than they harm. At one point he mentioned that Lott's specialty was law and economics, so he could perhaps be excused if he wasn't aware of the great narco-psycho-conspiracy that was fueling the criminal activity in this country.

"He took a caller, some entheta fellow in Tampa. The caller began talking about the RPF and Lisa McPherson, but was rather abruptly cut off by Clarke. A woman in Virginia didn't get very far before Clarke decided that she, too, was a psych operative, and cut her off. He took one last caller, who started talking about the investigation into Lisa McPherson's death just before he, too, was dropped from the line."

"CCHR's radio $cieno, Dennis Clarke, was on the air again this evening, this time with Sheriff John MacDougal of Lee County. The conversation between MacDougal and Clarke covered a lot of ground, from partial-birth abortions, to gangs, to (surprise!) psyche drugs. After a mutual schmooze-fest, MacDougal left and Clarke starting rambling and spewing again.

"He only took two callers. The second caller, 'Ian from downtown Clearwater', said that MacDougal's message about abortion and drugs was very important, and that interested listeners could find a lot more information about all this on the internet at WWW.XENU.NET ... 'that's 'X'-'E'-'N'-'U', 'Xenu'...' Ol' Dennis apparently knew what THAT was about, because he cut the guy off, and muttered something about 'squirrelly little punks' before launching into another rambling diatribe about drugs, or something."

Clearwater

The St. Petersburg Times reported that Clearwater City Commissioners seem to be less in control of the city than manager Mike Roberto.

"The commission appears to take its lead from City Manager Mike Roberto, considered an aggressive, outgoing leader with a seemingly endless stream of ideas. 'Mike Roberto has come in and he has taken over the reins of leadership and basically set forth the agenda,' said Dick Fitzgerald, a city commissioner from 1989 to 1995 who is still active in local politics. 'He is the one driving the train.' The five commissioners usually wait for Roberto to set the agenda for their meetings and do not appear to challenge him.

"Some commissioners have told him not to meet with Church of Scientology officials, but he did so anyway. 'They don't have any spine,' said Fred Thomas, a commissioner from 1993 to 1996 and founder of Pinch-A-Penny pool and patio supply chain. 'If I were (Roberto), I would want a meek, mild commission, too. It would be insanity not to want that.'"

Scientologists held a demonstration in Frankfurt this week to protest alleged discrimination in Germany. From the Scientology press release:

"Several thousand adherents of the Scientology organization have demonstrated for religious freedom in Frankfurt am Main on Monday after a European march. According to a statement by the police, there were about 6,500 people at the protest until evening. Representatives of Scientology said it was 8,000 people. At the demonstration, the participants demanded that all forms of religious discrimination be ended. Scientology brought up 19 notifications by governments and human rights organizations which they say confirmed a climate of intolerance in Germany. According to the Scientology statement, signers of the proclamation included several members of the European Parliament."

An editorial from Frankfurter Neue Presse:

"Yesterday in Frankfurt, several thousand persons demonstrated for 'religious freedom.' They were adherents of the Scientology church, the organization whose dangerous influence, as sect commissioners warn, has already begun to extend into politics, associations and businesses. Brainwashing, psychological terrorism, defamation, spying on citizens and commercial exploitation are trademarks of the fanatic salvation ideology of the psycho-sect. It mostly appears wearing silent soled shoes. Yesterday it marched boldly under the protective cover of the martyr of the Old Opera house in order to demand the right to 'religious freedom' for itself.

"Thousands of people have moved to Frankfurt involuntarily - people who left their country because of persecution for their beliefs. They left goods and possessions behind, and have suffered in body and spirit. To them, the Scientology demonstration is a cynical insult."

Online-Nachrichten der Hannoversche Allgemeinen Zeitung Magazin reported that Scientology has been distributing booklets on Psychiatry to German doctors and schools.

"According to Ingolf Christiansen, Scientology is pursuing a new strategy in that it is not advertising under its own name, but hidden behind a second organization. The leaflet targets people with alcohol and drug problems and advertises a detoxification 'sweat cure' in the Narconon clinic in Itzehoe. It is not just a matter of the questionable therapy, says Christiansen. Another goal is to 'clear' people in the Scientology sense. 'People go from one addiction to another.' The leafleting operation is part of Scientology's nationwide 'Crusade Week.' The organization cannot be described as a sect, said Christiansen, who is a member of the Parliament's Enquete Commission for 'So-Called Sects and Psycho-groups.' Scientology does not deal with matters of belief, but with world domination."

Grady Ward

Scientology defendant Grady Ward posted a letter to Judge Fogel this week, in which he argues that no settlement has been reached in his case. Grady also reported on the status of his book contract with Bob Minton.

"I do not believe the plaintiff and I have concluded a settlement for the following reasons. The court now directs the plaintiff to 'forthwith shall provide defendant with written notice which reasonably describes the nature and identity of copyrighted works or other materials not identified in plaintiff's complaint or in other pleadings on file in this action.' This term is at variance to the explicit term articulated in the oral recitals that 'The precise form of that [list of plaintiff's copyrighted works not identified in the pleadings] is to worked out initially by the plaintiff and presented again to Mr. Ward for final approval.' In light of the refusal of the plaintiff to provide such a notice, as documented in the letter of Helena K. Kobrin: 'Our review of the matter confirms what we told you in court last week, namely that it is an impossible task...', I do not approve. This disapproval constitutes a rejection of any offer of settlement by plaintiff.

"While the plaintiff waffled on what they would do precisely in order to give good notice of their copyrighted works, they fully agreed with the court's statement that I would have final approval of their proposal. This approval clause is important because of its free speech implications. With the plaintiff's history of unlawful harassment, especially of writers, it takes on a special importance.

"Within the last day, Mr. Robert S. Minton has also indicated that he has terminated my book contract and will not be sending me further advances. Therefore, the plaintiff will not be entitled to $10,000.00, and all proposed settlement terms regarding the book with Mr. Minton are now void."

Jesse Prince

Former RTC executive Jesse Prince released an affidavit this week in support of lawsuits involving FACTNet and Lawrence Wollersheim.

"In late 1991, my wife Monika became pregnant and although we were elated, she was ordered to abort the child. The reason for the abortion order is that Sea Org members were not allowed to have children. The order devastated both my wife and me. She got the abortion and afterwards she was not the same. She was devastated at the impact of what she did and that was when she told me she wanted to leave. We fled, with the organization close behind us, trying to find us. They finally did and convinced us to return so we could 'leave properly.' Once they had us again behind the barb wire and watched by security, my wife was threatened that if we did not sign certain papers, she would no longer be able to see her father and her sister, who were both in the Sea Organization.

"On or about April of 1983 I was present at a meeting, which took place in Los Angeles, California at a Scientology office called Author Services, Inc. (ASI). Present at the meeting was David Miscavige, then the chairman of the board of ASI, Vicki Aznaran then the Deputy Inspector General of Religious Technology Center, (RTC) and Lymon Spurlock, who was 'Director of Client Affairs' for ASI. There was concern that the IRS would obtain the hundreds of daily, weekly and monthly LRH orders written by Mr. Hubbard and distributed throughout Scientology. These orders were commonly referred to in Scientology as 'advices' to avoid the appearance that LRH was actually running Scientology. In fact, LRH was running Scientology. The principle concern expressed at this meeting was that the LRH orders or 'advices' would be used to name L. Ron Hubbard as the managing agent of Scientology.

"David Miscavige specifically stated that under his directive the LRH orders, or 'advices', were being collected and transferred by truck to a Riverside County recycling plant where the documents were to be 'pulped'. This method of destruction was considered to be better than shredding. I was also given instructions that I was in charge of purging the remainder of the Scientology organization of LRH orders.

"Several weeks after this first meeting I attended a second meeting. In attendance at the second meeting were David Miscavige, Lymon Spurlock, Vicki Aznaran, Norman Starkey and Marty Rathburn. David Miscavige stated that Scientology had been ordered by a court to produce various documents concerning a former Scientology member named Lawrence Wollersheim who had a lawsuit pending in Los Angeles against the Church of Scientology of California. The court had ordered Scientology to produce Mr. Wollersheim's entire 'preclear' (PC) file.

"Mr. Wollersheim's PC file was several thousand pages in length. Initially at this meeting it was decided that Mr. Wollersheim's PC file would be redacted and culled of any evidence or documentation which might assist Mr. Wollersheim in his lawsuit against CSC. Ultimately, approximately 50 pages were produced pursuant to the court order. Mr. Wollersheim's PC file was culled based on a direct order from David Miscavige. Later, I was informed that a second court order was issued to produce Mr. Wollersheim's entire file. Faced with the prospect of having to produce the entire file David Miscavige gave orders that the entire file simply be destroyed by being pulped.

"In early 1983 I attended a meeting at Scientology's ASI office in Los Angeles. In attendance at this meeting were David Miscavige, Lymon Spurlock, Vicki Aznaran, Patricia Brice and Edith Buchele. David Miscavige stated that Scientology was 'in trouble' concerning the copyright status of the many published materials of founder L Ron Hubbard. David Miscavige stated that Scientology had failed to register copyrights for thousands of pages of Scientology material written by Mr. Hubbard. David Miscavige specifically ordered Patricia Brice to begin the process of mass copyright registration filings for all of L. Ron Hubbard's materials. This order was given despite the fact that Mr. Miscavige was already aware that many of the materials in question were already in the public domain. Thus, I know from personal knowledge that in mid 1983 Scientology began a massive program to register Mr. Hubbard's material with the United State's Copyright office."

Digital Lightwave

The St. Petersburg Times reported this week that Scientologist-operated company Digital Lightwave has laid off a large number of employees.

"Digital Lightwave Inc. of Clearwater has laid off 55 workers, or about 20 percent of its staff. The telecommunications testing equipment maker recently settled shareholder lawsuits brought against it when the company admitted accounting errors and restated earnings this year. Steven Grant, chief financial officer, characterized the layoffs as a 'right-sizing' of the company, saying the layoffs came from all parts of Digital Lightwave. Its stock was unchanged Friday at $2.75 a share."

World Literacy Crusade

The Sacramento Bee carried a story on Scientology's World Literacy Crusade this week.

"The program has been tutoring children and adults in Del Paso Heights for nearly 1 years and recently expanded its reach to the south-area neighborhood of Franklin Villa. 'Look at why there is crime, and it's because people can't work. They don't have the skills to learn,' said Mary Noel, president of the literacy and mentoring program. '(The program) is basically aimed at improving society.'

"World Literacy Crusade was founded by a Los Angeles-area minister after the 1992 South Central riots as a way to fight illiteracy among inner-city youths. It has since become an international movement with offices in five continents. Before tutoring began in Del Paso Heights, World Literacy Crusade was training tutors and doing community outreach in Sacramento. 'We were in the community asking whether they wanted us there: 'We have this to offer are you interested in it?',' said Noel.

"The program curriculum is based on 'study technology' designed by author and Church of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. Scientology, a religious philosophy, is based on the writings and research of the late Hubbard. No Scientology concepts are taught as part of the literacy program, said Noel. Hubbard's technology emphasizes overcoming roadblocks to learning such as not understanding various meanings associated with the same word. 'You can learn anything. The only reason you give up is because of misunderstood words,' said Noel. '(Often) you don't have the opportunity to identify what went wrong or are pushed on to the next level.'"

Thad Beier reported that Scientology complained to his Internet provider to complain over the high use of Scientology's web site.

"The system administrator got a call from 'Ron' at the Church of Scientology International, complaining that I had been accessing their Scientology on-line pages too much. My ISP heard him out, as he recognizes their litigiousness, but thankfully called me to find out what was going on. I called 'Ron' back at the number specified (it was the Church of Scientology International main number) and explained that I was interested in researching Scientology, and that I found the pages useful. He said 'oh, okay. I was just concerned that you seemed be accessing them so much'. He said that his name was Ron Edison. I told him that he could find my name in the net-nanny list. I don't like them calling my ISP to complain, but it was a fairly harmless call in the end."

As many of you know, six people picketed the Boston Org from 5 to 6:30 pm last Thursday, August 13. Among the picketers were HiLary Osborne and myself (though I arrived about an hour late).

At the picket, the Scienos handed out the following leaflet.

Yes, they really did misspell "Hilary" as "Hilliary".

The leaflet contained a home address (which I deleted), not of HiLary at Northeastern University where she is a student, but rather of her PARENTS on a small residential street in a suburb 30-40 minutes' drive from Boston.

After the picket ended, HiLary talked to her parents and found out that three Scientolgists had driven out to that suburb and PICKETED HER PARENTS' HOUSE while, or maybe after, we were picketing the Org. Two of the picket signs said something about "satanic bigot" and one said "God Bless America". (???)

The following day, someone was handing out a similar leaflet about me to pedestrians on Third Street in Cambridge, near my office. I haven't yet seen that leaflet, but I suspect that it is the same as the following fax, which was sent to my office last Friday around 1:45 pm. I've used HTML tags to indicate italics and bold:

There is a line of small type at the top of the fax, which I think contains ascii data sent by the remote fax machine. It reads:

I am certain you are unaware of the real activities and nature of the people Bob is involved with, and I do not believe you would want your family engaged in these matters if you knew the character of these people or their agenda with respect to the "Minton money."

While Bob claims that the Church has sought to upset his family, in truth it is his activities that are the source of the turmoil that now surrounds his life and yours. It comes about as a result of his relationship with a group of morally bankrupt individuals who are taking money from him while they are engaged in unethical and even criminal activities.

Stacy Young is the center of much of the harm that is being caused. She has a history of engaging in illicit relationships, Bob is not the first to be lured into her web. While Bob denies that this relationship exists, however, I have documentary evidence that on July 24 and 25, 1998, Bob and Stacy are at your home in New Hampshire together. Their affair is alive and well and the manipulation and deceit continues.

Your husband, so far as we know, has spent almost $2 million dollars - at least funding Vaughn and Stacy Young (a house and various payments); Lawrence Wollersheim (to the tune of over $500,000); Ken Dandar ($250,000); Arnie Lerma ($60,000); Keith Henson ($25,000); Grady Ward ($60,000); Dennis Erlich ($5,000); and Jessie Prince (reportedly $100,000). Robert Smith, the head of Turan Corp., touted Minton as a "Man of Principle" in a newspaper article. Yet, as we have explained, these principles include lying to the American public and media as well as a special amorous relationship with Stacy Young.

Minton and Smith did business in Nigeria. Minton made a lot of his money, he says, by helping the country's dictatorial leadership to successfully default on multi-million dollar loans. Everyone with the inside knowledge benefited but as event and statistics show, the people suffered. While millions were siphoned off in "commissions," and lenders had to write off huge losses, the leaders of the country completely ignored the human suffering and misery of its citizens. Is this how a man of principal acts?

Following Rinder's recent letters, another letter to Therese arrived on Friday, again asking for a meeting so scientology could attempt to further divide Therese and me - perhaps even turn her into another Rosa Erlich. But Therese did not and will not bite that poison apple, Rinder.

Today (Sunday) scientology picketed and passed out flyers in front of my former home on Beacon Hill in Boston to friends, neighbors, and parents of my children's classmates, so that information about the break-up of their parents' marriage - and who should be blamed for it - was there for all to see, even my 10- and 12-year-old daughters.

As scientology has stalked Therese and the girls to Europe, followed the kids to a neighbor's house and stalked me all over the US-it certainly was no surprise to scientology that Therese and the girls were in New Hampshire this morning. Naturally, scientology picketers showed up there for the little girls to see. Obviously the children can read picket signs that describe Stacy as the vamp destroying the Minton family by breaking up marriages, another sign asking me not to destroy the lives of my children, and the like Does anybody think scientology cares one bit about the women of the Minton family? Or, is there something more sinister at work here?

Therese took pictures and was told that Stacy and I were continuing our "illicit relationship" in San Francisco. (Therese and I talk daily, she knows where I am, who I am with and my next destination).

Therese and I certainly need no help from scientology in dealing with our lives and those of our children!

You know full well, scienos, that Therese and our children deserve no taunting from the taxpayer-funded fraud known as scientology because of what I am doing and will continue to do to your miserable excuse for a church.

But, you will continue to do it for two reasons: 1) you are cowards, and 2) because you are impotent to deal with this one single wog called Bob Minton who has furthered the correct perception of your hateful organization throughout the world in the last few years.

Speaking of my children, my son Rob, who was mentioned on the Dateline show, seems to be working in some capacity for scientology-along with his mother-to discredit me in media circles. Either Stacy or I will report in detail tomorrow about the stalking incident in SFO today which involved the San Francisco Police, Stacy and myself, and an OSA operative who has been stalking us for the last three days. He was at the picket in SFO yesterday, he admitted to the police that he was one of seven scientologists who met us at our gate at the airport Friday, and he has been identified by photo as Mark Warlick. The Denver scieno contingent could not quite muster enough courage to confront Stacy, Jesse and me at the Airport today when Stacy departed at 10:30am or when Jesse and I departed at 11:30am for Boston. We think they were still licking their wounds from Monday's rout at the airport by the ARSCC's verbal tech tag team monsters. In any case, this dying "church" will have to confront some serious NOT's commands and BT's getting the old heave-ho when they meet us next time in an airport.

Which reminds me; if the Boston org boys and girls meet us at Boston's Logan Airport when we arrive in a few hours, they had also better be ready to deal with the real OT8 stuff as well. Also, I guarantee they will pull in at least one other picket in Boston this week. It your call O'Keefe and Renna.

7 Boston clams, including an LA OSA person, greeted Jesse and me at our arrival gate. Naturally, we whipped out our picket signs from the ARSCC standard portfolio loaned to us by the SFO cell and proceeded to storm the terminal with shouts about the church of scientology stalking us, killing Lisa McPherson, commiting crimes, etc.--lots of embarassment for the clams.

We were making so much of a ruckus at the baggage claim area that 4 State Troopers arrived to restore order. After questioning all sides the scienos were told that had the troopers known they were demonstrating in the airport they would have been arrested as FAA regulations apparently prohibit such unlawful assembly on airport property ;-)

Chalk this up as another big BOO for the ARSCC!

We we know how "Rear" Admiral David Miscavige likes it. And we're just the folks that will satisfy him.

I found out from Jesse one reason why Davy Miscavige likes it from behind so much. Seems when his wife Shelly takes it in the missionary position she gets pregnant. Will wonders never cease!!!!!! But see that means a forced ABORTION is in order. Jesse will have more to say about this later.

I'd like to thank all those who've been helping outand I'm doing fine or relatively so :)

My sympathy to those of my friends who are'nt 'critics' but have gotten caught in the collateral damage. I can't quite say apologies since I'm afraid none of this bullying would have been nor is likely to have any affect on 'shuddering' me into silence, for what that's worth.

As a matter of fact the bullying tactics have possibly started giving some of my friends a first inkling of why I am a critic.

I don't think all scientologists are bad, stupid, evil or even crazy. I do think that at it's core Scientology is a bullying nut cult and as usual it's actions reveal more about the internal workings of the Scientology leaderships cesspools of the spirit than anything about any critic.

As to the DA page:

It contains some truth, some lies, libel, innuendo and just to round out the hypocricy some copyright terrorism. :)

Altogether though it contains pure irrelevancy.

Interesting are a couple of things:

Both Wgert and Rod the fletch announced it before it was there. The picture of my (former) house in Chatsworth was taken according to the page itself in May coinciding not with any pickets by me but by Rod's 'Outing' of me on ARS.

I went back and looked this up because I was interested in what if any proximate cause there had been to bother photographing my house. My name hadn't been a secret for quite a while, even to any number of scientologists (of the non rondroid variety) and my name was in the phone book.

Big win for the oh so clever scientology PIs :)

I'd looked up the dates because I'd wondered if Kristi's and my picket was the proximate cause, but no, that was on June 8.

So it must boil down to something I said here. (and no, I would no more say that I wanted to 'enturbulate the church' than I would take any other scieno-newspeak in my mouth (silly clams).

Today a small contingent of faithful Scientologists came out to Bob Minton's home in New Hampshire to picket. I say "small," as there were only two people there -- the Boston DSA Maureen O'Keefe and Joe Stover, an OT8.

Bob responded by pulling out and setting up ten times as many protest signs in his yard! Pictures were taken by both sides, and all in all, it was pretty peaceful, no shouting or anything. After a while, the police came and sent the Scientologists off, saying they were a road hazard and they did not want them to become road kill.

I talked to Maureen for a little while, just to let her know my true feelings about Scientology and why I oppose it. She made an interesting assumption about me which I hope I cleared up for her. She said to me, "You hate Scientology, don't you?"

I told her I don't hate anything. I just feel sorry for the fact that she does not know what she is really doing or what she is trying to support. Here it is Labor Day weekend, and she and another OT 8 are out in the hot sun with pitiful signs protesting instead of enjoying the day with their families. At this point we engaged in conversation concerning just how Scientology denigrates and break down the most basic human structure in our society, which is the family..

We talked about specifics. Now, I could go on and on about others having their families destroyed by Scientology, but I talked to her about my experience specifically. We talked about how the Sea Org makes its members have enforced abortions. In fact I now recall a Flag Order which forbids Sea Org members to have children. In order to have a child in the Sea Org you have to submit something called a "CSW" which means completed staff work. You have to say how having a child will increase Sea Org productivity and forward the goals of the group. During my time as a Senior Executive in RTC, no one, and I mean no one, including my own wife, who was one of the women at the secret management base in Gilman Hot Springs who was forced to have an abortion, was allowed to have children as it was not the greatest good for the greatest number of dynamics. The reason for denial was purely financial. Kids cost money.

Standard procedure for any women who got pregnant was for the pregnant women to read a PR (public relations) pack and/or get a briefing from the Port Captain (PR post in the Sea Org) on how to explain to the local welfare board how you were an adult indigent and had to have an abortion and the state needed to pay for it. My wife and I went through this nightmare when she became pregnant. Neither one of us wanted the abortion and it caused us much grief. However she was convinced to have one anyway, and nothing I said or did would stop her. I even told her we could both leave the Sea Org, but she didn't want to. All I could do at that point was to support her in her decision and I went to the abortion clinic with her.

Going to an abortion clinic was a horrifying experience in the dark side of human nature. We sat there and saw the misery of others who were there. To be honest, it all felt unreal. It is dangerous to have an abortion, because in some cases the mother can no longer carry a child to full term afterwards.

To make a long story short, my wife and I decided to have children once we got out of the Sea Org. She was five months pregnant and we went to have an ultrasound done. We discovered that the unborn child was horribly deformed and had to be aborted. In the end I held the deformed fetus in my arms after it was born dead. The face was my face. I loved the child and was very upset and hurt by the experience. This experience devastated both of us and effectively destroyed our marriage. We are divorced now.

How is it that you can devote your life to an organization, yet have no medical insurance or any assurance that you will be cared for by the organization? What kind of crazy fools is the Sea Org creating in this modern world we live in?

No, I don't hate Scientology. But I sure hate what it does. What kind of coward would demand the blood of the innocent unborn as a matter of law? L. Ron Hubbard is the answer, and just like the Nazi soldiers at the death camps, David Miscavige, Scientology's new dictator, keeps on pushing the button or giving the orders to kill. L Ron Hubbard is dead! Why does the slaughter of the innocent continue?

Prior to my association with Scientology I was blessed with two healthy children. It is my belief that as a result of Scientology I lost two children.

I plan to make the subject of enforced abortions in Scientology widely known and well documented.

I told Maureen O'Keefe that I have no hate in my heart for her. She is way low on the Scientology hierarchy and far from the inner sanctum of her "church," Scientology. She does not understand what she is supporting and promoting. I have an obligation to her and everyone else in Scientology to reveal truth about Scientology, L Ron Hubbard and the people who are running his organization since he has died, so that informed decisions can be made concerning what to support. After that, the burden is on them.

Scientology Releases and Pilots new Tech

Drive by Protest!

Bob Minton and Jesse Prince got picketed today using the new Scientology tech release Drive by Protest. As a note, the signs that they used had stick on letters and you could actually read them this time. Take a big pat on the back Miscavige, your brilliance shines through on this one.

Bob and Jesse quickly helped with the pilot and started bull baiting the protesters. By the way it was just one car with two people in it. We stood in the road and got some nice pictures of them (see alt.binaries.scientology for about 20 pictures). After awhile, it got boring so Bob and Jesse decided to spice it up Steven King style. They both got long handled axes and waited for them on both sides of the road. I swear you never seen windows go up so fast! Gone were the cocky little smiles replaced by terror.

Bob and Jesse decided to invite them in for lunch. We were having barbecue BT's and Cluster soup. Being good little robots they declined as we all know robots only use oil.

Anyway we had great fun and I'm sure the Scientologist did to ;-)

BTW, It is really heartening for both Bob and me to see that that the picket signs yesterday and today focused on constitutional issues rather than on personal matters that could be hurtful to the Minton children who were here for both pickets.

Here is the e mail I recieved from the Fellowship board moderator, along with the excerpted correspondence between me and another "fellowship" poster. Such is the basis of the complaint to TOS me. My posting is quoted in full. The objector's comments neatly excised the full name of the referenced newsgroup (alt.religion scientology) to: "A.R.S"., as you shall see.

IMHO, ars or any mention thereof, has been "banned" from the fellowship board. Perhaps the Freezone Movement needs to establish a fellowship board on AOL to gain equal time, if not perspective? AOL has a 55% share amonst American internet accessors. Fully 60% or more of active Scieno's are USA based. AOL e-mail and "keyword" boards are currently immune from the scieno-sitter software. Get my drift??

The ostrich syndrome saga continues. Want to communicate with the largest plurality of Scieno's on the internet? Start objecting/circumventing to aol's lame screening criteria and pick up a quick 25% US and international readership.

No wonder Cof$ balks at my simple posts so quickly. Both actively (TOSing complaints at me) and passively (hiding behind the "fellowship" dogma). Since when does internet access imply or guarantee a "privacy" right from open debate in a PUBLIC message board forum? Private, code accessed forums are now available through Excite, for example for these purposes. But because my post is declared "off topic" (as it simply questions with contrarian views of the *topic* at large), I'm TOSed. Doesn't sound like real "Science" to me.

The CofS is effectively shielding *any* critical commentary from 25% of its on-line membership. Could the same be said to be true from honest, open debate in any of the OTHER Religious categories hosted by aol?

Any suggestions, anyone?

You will not shudder me into silence. Apologists are pathetic when they try to hide, or disguise open discussion. How else is the truth to be realized? Through one-sided propaganda only? Why not let your aol members "think for themselves"? What is the harm in letting them access free and open discussion of the issues? Why not let them express their fundamental rights of free speech, free from censorship? Why try to keep them in the dark??

Two of my sisters, the ones who live in Atlanta, Georgia, and Duluth, Minnesota, have been picketed by Scientology in the last week. Both of my sisters are sending me the fliers that were handed out. My sister in Duluth told me that the flier they were trying to hand out in her neighborhood said something like, "Please tell Stacy to tell Bob Minton that he should stop spending his money to hurt the Church of Scientology."

My sister in Duluth thought it was hilarious that Scientology would picket in her neighborhood, considering the fact that it is a staunch Lutheran community which wants nothing to do with a cult like Scientology. My sister said the picketers couldn't get a single person to take one of their fliers. The only person who did take one was my sister, who asked for one so she could send it to me.

My sister in Atlanta didn't even tell me her neighborhood had been picketed until almost a week after it happened. She figured that was exactly what Scientology wanted her to do -- call me and tell me about it just to upset me, and she didn't want to do that. But when she heard about the picket in Duluth, she decided to let me know about the picket in Atlanta.

My sister lives in the Ansley Park section of Atlanta with her husband and their little boy. She told me that when her husband saw them picketing he went out and told the picketers it was stupid of them to harass him, since he hasn't done anything to the Church of Scientology and all they're doing is creating a new enemy for themselves. Furthermore, he told them, he has no influence whatsoever over what his sister-in-law does, so they're wasting their time trying to get to me through him and my sister. My sister was embarrassed to have to tell me that she slept through the entire incident, but she was very proud of the way her husband dealt with the situation. He got the number of the DSA, Diane Stein, from one of the picketers, and called her. Apparently they had quite a long conversation. He told her picketing is just not the kind of thing she should have her people doing in Atlanta, especially not in Ansley Park. Maybe in California, he said, but definitely not in Atlanta. He gave her some tips about courtesy and acceptable behavior, but I'm afraid she didn't learn much from his conversation, because yesterday she called my mother in Atlanta -- but I'll get to that in a minute.

First I want to tell the story about my mother's dog Woozel.

My mother called me a week ago to tell me that at about 11:00 the night before, her dog Woozel suddenly started barking frantically and ran downstairs to the front door. Woozel is a rough-coat Jack Russell Terrier. For those of you who don't know about Jack Russells, they are not very large but they can be extremely ferocious, to say the least. It was obvious from Woozel's reaction that someone was at the door, so my mother went down to find out what was going on. When she got downstairs she found Woozel snapping furiously at the mail slot in the front door, as though someone were right outside. She quickly peeked out the window and saw what she described as a very overweight woman, obviously frightened of Woozel's snarling, doing her best to scurry away from the door. At the same time Mother saw that the woman had pushed a fat envelope through the mail slot.

I haven't read the letter yet; my mother has mailed it to me and I hope to receive it by tomorrow so that I can post the text on a.r.s. My mother was furious when she read it and disgusted that Scientology engages in this kind of harassment and intmidation while hypocritically calling itself a "church." She was so angry, in fact, that she opened the front door and said, "Go get her, Woozel!" whereupon Woozel took off running after this poor, misguided Scientology operative. Had he caught up with her this woman would be minus at least a leg. It isn't often that my mother gives Woozel carte blanche to pursue his most basic instinct, which is to tear apart his prey in the most vicious, merciless way imaginable, and once he starts there is absolutely no way to make him stop. Fortunately for this woman, she was able to get into her car and speed away, tires squealing, in time to escape this grisly fate in the jaws of my mother's dog Woozel.

Tuesday night my mother called me and as soon as I answered the phone, she said, "Just a minute, Stacy. I have Diane Stein on the phone and I'm trying to turn this into a conference call so you can hear what she's saying to me about you." So now the DSA Atlanta is calling my mother directly to try to get to me. I couldn't believe it and I told my mother so. "Well," she said, "I doubt she'll call me again because I don't think I reacted the way she wanted me to."

When the three of us got on the phone together the first thing that happened was my mother lit into Diane for the things she was trying to say about me, Vaughn and Bob Minton. She said she knew what Diane was trying to do and said she thought it was only fair that Diane give her the phone number of her parents so she could call them the way Diane was calling mine. Mother said she thought Diane's parents ought to know what kind of organizaion their daughter is involved in. Diane refused, of course, saying her father was dying, to which my mother replied, "Well, how do you know I'm not about to die, too? Why do you get to call me but I can't call your parents?" My mother was really great. She loves Vaughn and won't tolerate Scentology saying anything against him, and she has also met Bob and really likes him, so she wouldn't let Diane get a word in edgewise about any of us. I had already told Mother all about Bob being assaulted in Boston and how Scientology managed to get him arrested, when in fact Bob was the one who was surrounded, threatened and assaulted, and all he did was try to defend himself. So Mother patiently explained all of this to Diane. Diane, of course, refused to believe a word of it, but Mother and I both tried our best to get through to her.

At the end of our conversation I told Diane I was glad to have had a chance to talk to her to correct the lies she's being fed by Rinder et al. I urged her to get on the internet and read the truth about Scientology, and I told her if she ever wants to know what Scientology is really all about, she is welcome to call me any time.

Jesse's spoken to his family and apparently they're being harassed by Scientology, and Bob just heard yesterday that his former partner in London is being picketed for the past several days. When I got to one of the Boston area's ARSCC underground hideouts last night, I called Jesse, who is keeping an eye on the cat sanctuary on Vashon (the cats are doing great, by the way; I'll be posting photos of our six-week-old kittens tonight) while I'm gone. He said four Scientologists picketed the sanctuary all afternoon yesterday, trying to pass out fliers about Bob and me but unable to find any takers. Jesse said he went out and spoke to them for quite a while and they were apparently very interested in what he had to say about his experiences in Scientology.

More ominously, despite normal precautions, someone has recently accessed information about my bank accounts.

But all this flurry of activity tells me we must be doing something right, eh?

Bob and I will be in Toronto on Saturday to join in the regular Saturday picket of the Toronto org. Anybody who can make it up there is cordially invited to help. I assure you, the Toronto police will be out in force to protect Gregg, AndroidCat, Bob, me and the rest of us from Scientology's usual criminal behavior in Canada.

You just don't get it, do you, Scientology? You can't stop us.

I had a wonderful welcome when I arrived at the Seattle airport -- no Scientologists picketing me!

Bob had called Jesse before he left Columbus for Boston to let him know what had happened at the Columbus airport. He had found out the name of the head of airport security in Seattle and gave Jesse the man's name and number. Jesse called him and told him about Scientology's illegal picketing that has been going on at airports across the country. This guy told Jesse there was no way any Scientologist was going to picket at the Seattle airport.

So when I got off my plane Jesse was there to meet me, and so were a couple of Seattle police officers. But no Scientology picketers!

I was ready with my camera and was on the alert all the way down to the baggage claim area. But since security knew my flight number they also knew where my bags would be coming out. There were Seattle police patroling the baggage claim area, staying in touch with each other by walkie-talkies and stopping anyone who they thought looked suspicious in any way.

What a wonderful way to come home -- with the police protecting me from the Scientologists!

It's just as it should be. And it will be that way at every airport in the country from now on.

Of course, when Jesse and I arrived at the sanctuary on Vashon there were three picketers at the street waiting for me. Their signs said, "Bob Minton was arrested for assault on September 10 in Boston," "The woman who lives here is the head of an anti-religious hate group: Stacy Young," and "Bob Minton, stop attacking our religion."

But my neighbor saw me later and said, "These people picketing you are really crazy, aren't they? I don't know what they think they're accomplishing, but the people on Vashon can't stand them."

So Scientology is just shooting themselves in the foot every time they picket me here. Go for it, guys.

The Arizona branch of the Co$ is again attempting to deprive me of my right to free speech by abuse of the court system. This time they have an injunction from the Mesa, AZ municipal court. The injunction is posted in jpeg format to alt.binaries.scientology.

Needless to say, I will get this quashed and I will be seeking significant sanctions for this attempt to use the municipal court to impose a restriction that was already denied by the Superior Court of Arizona.

He is carefully documenting the events around this production. He said that these events are beginning to become more interesting than the film as such...

(b) Using existing attorneys, obtain what legislation Germany passed to enforce the GENOCIDE Convention which it signed and ratified.

(c) Seek to obtain , by subpoena in any existing suit and other legal means, any files or dossiers on Scn or its principals.

(d) Compile a list of names of those who have been violating the Convention articles or its principles.

(e) Do a rough draft of a petition to whatever authority in Germany was specified in the legislation in (b) above. Include all references and documents as well as the bona-fides of Scn. Cite those guilty of violations of the convention, document exactly how and the clause violated.

(f) Have the attorney do the final draft.

(g) Submit the petition.

(h) Exploit any advantages gained.

(i) In case of no real success, be sure that all recourse has been exhausted as this goes before the UN and the Eu Commission.

(j) See that this concludes as a deterrant to further attacks.

GROUP CALLS FOR LOBOTOMY BAN AT MGH

Boston - Local members of an international psychiatric watchdog group held two 15 foot banners outside the main entrance of Massachusetts General Hospital to protest their use of lobotomies.

Mass. General is the only hospital in the nation admitting to this barbaric procedure,,, said Kevin Hall, New England Director of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), "A lobotomy protest may be startling, but it's time people wake up to the brutality, ham and even death created by psychiatry."

Modern lobotomies, or cingulotomies, use lasers or live electric wires inserted through the skull to destroy small areas of the brain. This is dissimilar to those of about forty to fifty years ago which mainly consisted of jamming a common ice pick under the eyelid and moving it back and forth to destroy as much of the brain's gray matter as possible.

Approximately 50,000 Americans fell victim to the earlier procedure which was developed in 1935 by Portuguese neurosurgeon Egas Moniz who was killed by one of his own victims. He used to drill holes in the forehead and insert blades. One year later, the quicker ice pick procedure was developed by American psychiatrist Walter "The Headhunter" Freeman who performed an estimated 3,300 of these procedures which he described as a "mercy killing of the psyche."

The two banners had the following consecutive messages, "50, 000 DESYROYED BY LOBOTOMY IN U. S." and "LOBOTOMIES DONE AT MASS. GENERAL.

According to CCHR, which was established by the Church of Scientology to investigate and expose psychiatric violations of human rights, most people at a similar demonstration last week were horrified and infuriated that Mass. General peforms psychosurgery. Many employees did not even know that the hospital did this type of procedure. "I hope some of the Mass. General employees take that anger out on the lobotomists in their ranks in order to put an end to the babarism," said Hall.

CCHR's intention for the protest is to raise awareness as part of a campaign to ban all forms of psychosurgery.

For the record, I wish to correct the least obvious lie in this flyer that "A year ago, he appeared out of nowhere to hand out millions...."

Wrong you impotent fools. Do you just want your members to think that I have been a short-lived flap for scientology. Well, I showed up on ars in January 1995, delurked in October 1995, started handing out money soon thereafter, offered a $360,000 reward for the revocation of your 501(c)3 status in March 1996, and have generally been in your face and on your ass ever since.

This obviously begs the question, why are you so impotent?

Leader of an Anti-Religious Hate Group

As a director and the main financial backer of an anti-religious hate group, Robert Minton has blatantly lied to the American public and the media about the Church of Scientology, its members, its goals and actions. We protest this effort to smear, malign and now subject our members to violence. Proclaiming himself to be a "free speech advocate", Minton can't stand to let others enjoy the same free speech rights and has resorted to violence on several occasions.

A year ago, Minton appeared out of nowhere to hand out millions of dollars to individuals found by federal courts to have been engaged in unlawful. activities against the Church of Scientology.
Members of our Church pointed out publicly at that time that Minton was unstable, had been institutionalized in the past and was on psychiatric medication. A warning was issued that he could explode into violence at any time. Minton confirmed our fears a few weeks ago when, accompanied by a married woman, Stacy Young, he appeared with a shotgun and fired at three Scientologists who were engaging in a peaceful demonstration.

Minton repeatedly lied to the media and has tried to destroy our religious beliefs and practices. Minton is a hypocrite. Minton's present of a $260,000 home to Mrs. Young, a married woman not his wife, was NOT a humanitarian act - as he claimed to the press while denying their affiair - but apparently part of a scheme to lure her away from her husband. Yet, he has now publicly abandoned his own wife and children for Ms, Young.

When his hatemongering against our parishioners was, given prominence in the Boston media, our church was repeatedly vandalized. We said then that he was a trigger's width from an outburst of psychotic violence. His violence struck this recently. Reeking of alcohol, Minton turned up outside the Church of Scientology on 10/9/98 carrying picket signs and started abusing staff and parishioners. When two Scientologists tried to stop him, he thrust his sign into the face of one, knocking off his glasses. He finally smashed a stick over the head of the second, who was taken to hospital.

Robert Minton has failed to conduct himself decently toward members of our church. He has instead chosen to lie to the media and public and create hatred and violence. He has demonstrated that truth has no place on his agenda.

Mr. Minton has paid to create an atmosphere of intolerance against our religion. His religious bigotry, hatred and violence must stop.

Peter Franks, one of the London PI's working for scientology, has been talking to as many of Therese's friends in England as he can as well as my former business partner. Franks has laid out the following strategy:

My former partner, Therese and the children are the most likely targets to "track" in order to bring pressure on me to stop. My former partners office and home (wife + children) have been regularly picketed and leafleted for several weeks. Franks says they will go after Jeff's clients, including picketing the Nigerian delegation to the IMF meeting in Washington, D.C. October 4-8. Franks claims Jeff is going to be caught in a web of IRS tax investigations of me and claims 2 IRS agents they are working with are about ready to pounce on me. Due to the 7 year statue of limitations, scientology figures Jeff will also be ensnared unless he does something to help them.

Franks has said that each and every neighbor of Therese will be visited in Boston and the whole ugly scene will be laid out for all to hear. The children's schools will be targeted for the same campaign which will include teachers, administrators and parents to paint me as a pariah.

Further, scientology is having a hard time understanding why Therese won't accept their help. "We don't want to hurt Therese because she's such a good lady" Franks said, "we're willing to assist her," he continued.

Police in England have taken an interest in this matter.

The truth is definitely stranger than fiction!

This report is for the anonymous Scientology representatives who were left with weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth when I told them on IRC last night that I'd been on the radio, but I wouldn't tell them where. I decided to wait 24 hours, to give wgert time to call the local org and find out for himself....

As some of you know, the cult left another scurrilous leaflet around the neighborhood sometime early on Sunday, September 27. At first, I thought the leaflet had only gone to the fourplex I live in, but on Tuesday I learned that no, it had been spread up and down the street.

This I learned from a neighbor who lives a few doors away who called me to express her disgust over the leaflet. When I returned her call (oh, the joys of voice mail), I realized that I knew, really knew who this neighbor was, because she was a talk show host on a local radio station. She has a drive-time show from 4 to 7, and she wanted me to come on it, bring my picket sign, and talk about what'd been going on. She'd noticed the upsurge of hatred in the neighborhood and this was just part of it. It seemed to me that to her this leafleting wasn't too far removed from the cross-burning that took place only a few blocks from here a couple of weeks ago.

So yesterday I went down to her radio show after work, took my picket sign, and enlightened the listeners of Radio One, KWUN, 1230 AM about Scientology from just before 6 pm to 7 pm. It was a most interesting experience. I'd never been on the radio before, and Kay Henry (that's the host), she made it so easy. I really liked being on her show.

We had several callers, most of whom were regulars. We started out with the leaflets and the picketing, and then we went on to discuss Scientology and the IRS, Scientology's Snow White campaign, Scientology and psych drugs, and just basically free formed through whatever topic the callers wanted to discuss. I got the sacred URLs out: www.xenu.net, www.entheta.net, www.lisamcpherson.org. I did NOT discuss Xenu and the Marcabs, because she didn't want to get into any secret scripture stuff, for her own protection. I had one caller say that he hoped I was taking adequate precautions (he suggested firearms for protection). That, folks, was an unsolicited comment. Scientology should be concerned when

I really like talking about the IRS, especially here in Salt Lake City, whre there are a lot of people who think the IRS is the embodiment of Satan. To talk about CoS and show that *they* cowed the IRS...man, that's *powerful*.

We had one Scn caller. This woman, "Laure", started out by saying that I was involved with the Free Zone. Well, I cut her off. I told her that no, I was NOT involved with the Free Zone, I'd never been a Scn. I said that I don't particularly buy into the "tech," but if someone wants to explore Scn practices outside of the CoS, I'd be happy to steer them to the FZ. And, oh yeah, what about this harassment of ex-Scns who just wanted to practice the tech?

She didn't want to admit she was an Scn. I don't cotton to hiding, and so I badgered Laure until she said she was Scn. She snapped into Scn-speak, and kept going on about trying to have communication, and at one point even went into this spiel about trying to have a sane conversation and I started laughing right then and there. It was so *ridiculous*.

After the show was over, the host and her producer thanked me for coming, and the producer said he'd gotten some calls about how this had been a really good show. I believe there'd also been a call asking if I'd been on the entire three hours. If there was (and I wasn't dreaming it), I bet it was from the Org, trying to figure out whether it was a Foot Bullet or a Leg Bazooka.

Kay said she is going to invite the Scns on very soon. If I were Scn, I would not expect a cakewalk. She wants to know why Scn put that leaflet out, and I asked her to ask the Scn representatives *who* did the leaflet. That show will be as interesting, I'm sure.

After the show, I listened to the next show as I was driving home. I ended up calling that host, and arguing with him about picketing. He's not convinced picketing works. I can testify that it does work...it works *wonders* in enturbulating the living daylights out of Scientology.

I'd also like to say that Scientology Tech works...at getting critics places that they probably wouldn't usually go! I wouldn't have gotten on the radio had it not been for the efforts of the local bOrg, at the instigation of OSA Int[ernational], headed up by that loveable Kiwi Mike Rinder. Let's be real folks, this is NOT coming from a piddly local DSA...they're getting orders from the big guys to stop the suppressive threat in Salt Lake City.

I don't know that I have actually affected the GI (Gross Income) for the SLC bOrg, but given their excessive reaction, I have to wonder if where there is smoke, there is fire.

Anyway, I'd like to respectfully submit this as a lovely foot-bullet on the part of $cientology.

Picketing will continue in SLC as long as the weather holds up.

I was revenge-picketed today.

After my two-hour picket at the San Francisco org and the requisite post-picket snack, I returned home to find a lone picketer in front of my apartment building.

I snapped a few pictures, then joined him on the sidewalk. I introduced myself, and he said his name was Ben. I tried to do more listening than talking. Ben wasn't very talkative, but he did answer my questions.

I asked him what made him think I was a religious bigot, and he said I was acting like one. I asked him how; alas, I don't remember what he said.

He said (rather vehemently, although generally speaking his voice was pretty soft) that I didn't know anything about $cientology and that I hadn't read any books. I told him that I DID know a fair amount about $cn and that I HAD read some books - that I'd read a bunch of the tech and admin manuals and that I'd read Dianetics cover to cover. He said "You have not!", but I assured him that I had. Indeed, I told him, I had my copy in my backpack (thanks to Bill Crawford, my latest $cn handler, who had actually expressed interest in my opinion of Dianetics.)

He mentioned that he'd been a Scientologist for, I believe, 22 years.

I asked whether he was on staff. He said he had been. I asked how long it was since he'd been on staff, and he said a while. I asked what made him decide to leave staff, and he said he had other things he wanted to do.

I asked whether he chose to picket, or whether someone asked him to do it; he said it was his idea.

He didn't appear to have any fliers with him; he didn't try to flier passersby while we were out there together, and I didn't see any on nearby cars or in my apartment building when I went inside later. I, on the other hand, got fliers into the hands of several people as we picketed together.

A big group of French-speaking folks came by and declined my fliers because they didn't speak English - so I launched into broken French, explaining that I believed that $cn hurts people, that the gentleman on the sidewalk with me was trying to intimidate me, and that I thought $cn was breaking the law and I wanted them to stop. At that point, they all took mini-fliers from me and expressed their support - "bon courage! merci!"

Ben and I went over some of the usual stuff. I asked him if he'd ever seen $cn do ANYTHING that was bad or wrong. He thought for several seconds, then said yes, but not kidnapping or any of the stuff I was claiming. He did the "why are you picketing if you aren't 100% certain you're right" thing. I told him I was convinced that the evidence was accurate, but that I was more than willing to look at evidence to the contrary. He said a few times that he'd never seen the kinds of crimes I'm protesting. I told him I'd never seen police brutality, but I believed it happened - just because I've never seen it didn't mean it didn't exist.

Both Ben and Bill told me today that they never saw the Introspection Rundown get used, trying to convince me that it may be policy but it never actually happens. I told Ben that I'd read reports from former Scientologists of the IR being used, and that if the policy was recognized as being wrong and illegal, it should be formally, publicly repudiated.

He called me a "silly girl" and a couple of times made sarcastic comments about how I thought I was being "so noble." (Isn't sarcasm a suppressive behavior?)

Ben checked his watch a few times and, as soon as he'd put in his time, he took off. I held out my hand, but he declined to shake it. He said he was sure he'd be back; I wished him a good weekend.

Things that make me go "hmmm":

$cn didn't counter-picket me two weeks ago when I picketed in SF, nor during the last week when I picketed in Palo Alto and Mountain View. I thought they might have given up, and I was a little surprised to see Ben out there.

In the past, there have been two people picketing my home. This time, there was only one.

I was glad Ben chose to picket at a time when I could talk with him, and I was pleased that he let me engage him in dialog. I hope that next time he's inspired to come picket me, he'll come at a time when I can talk with him again.

Comparative stats, for what it's worth: critics had five people, for a presence of over two hours, with many fliers distributed; Scientologists had one person, for a presence of a half hour, with no fliers distributed.

Once again, wogs are at cause.

I was just starting to launder some lacy underthings in the sink when a neighbor came and pounded on the front door. "They're back!" he shouted. I opened the door and he told me the Scns were back picketing in front of the house. I got my camera and went outside.

The two picketers were (a) Cell Phone Woman and (b) Fat Moustache Man. I've sighted both of them at the Org in the past. Fat Moustache Man laughed at me last Sunday after I went over and picketed the bOrg after the last set of leaflets hit the street.

They stayed about 10 minutes. My neighbors had called the cops, who took an awful time coming, but no matter. When one of my neighbors commented on how stupid their signs were, that nobody could read them, I went over to my car, pulled out my sign, and showed it to them. It was at *that* point that the two picketers left. Entheta always wins out over theta.

This is not going away, Scientology.

A 14-page DA pack was delivered to my former partner, Jeff Schmidt, and the Nigerian Minister of Finance in Washington, D.C., this week during the IMF meeting. The DA pack was sent by Peter Franks, a private investigator for the Church of Scientology working out of England, and was no doubt hand-delivered by OSA personnel at the DC org.

The first part of the DA pack was a repetition of Stacy/shotgun posts that I made to the internet on August 25. Further, there was the leaflet which was handed out in the Boston financial district, linking Robert P. Smith with me, that was posted to the internet on August 24.

The next section, which is quoted below, is a leaflet handed out during pickets at the home of Selwyn Lewis, my other former partner in Capetown, South Africa. In this latest "Trash the Critics" operation, the Church of Scientology has said that the mere act of not providing them with information about me makes Mr. Lewis a dishonest businessman who lacks principles.

It is interesting to note that the Scientologists have decided to completely trash the Nigerians. The purpose of this is clearly to drive a wedge between Jeff and the Nigerian government in order to disrupt his business with them. Further, Jeff will in turn put pressure on me, they hope, to get the Scientologists off his back. In fact, this morning, Jeff told me, "You are really making my life miserable."

THE TRUTH BEHIND THE LIES

Robert Minton, a wealthy American with past business ties to Mr. Selwyn Lewis of 232 Keoff Road, Clifford, Cape Town, South Africa, is a director and the main financial supporter of an anti-religious hate group which mindlessly attacks minorities.

Mr. Minton, along with Mr. Selwyn Lewis, accumulated his wealth through conducted business transactions with Nigeria while it was under the tight grip of military dictatorship. It 'Is clear that because Henson has a guilty conscience, he has directed his insane behavior against the Church of Scientology. Only a raving lunatic would try and harm Scientology or a Scientologist and Henson, its can be seen by a cursory review is no exception.

For example, Keith Henson's first wife divorced him because he was I child molester who caused untold emotional damage to his underage daughters by sexually molesting them while married to his first wife. In an affidavit he filed with the Arizona Superior Court, Henson's former wife (while complaining about Henson being a deadbeat dad and the amount of funds she had to put out as a result) complained that Henson was so irresponsible that he had not even paid for the psychological counselling of his two daughters due to Henson's molestation of them. His wife alleged, " .$6,000 has been owed since May 1981 which includes Gale's operation and four-day hospital stay; Valerie and Virginia for pulmonary problems and psychological counseling for Gate and Wendy as a result of father's sexual molestation of them."

A friend of the Henson's also testified in the case that: "Carolyn stated that Keith had sexually molested his children and that if he did not come back to Tucson for therapy he might be arrested. In all probability she felt there would be a divorce. Several meetings with Carolyn occurred over the next several weeks where she enumerated occasions of child molestation and at this time she said she had money problems since Keith was not giving her enough to care for the kids properly,"

Henson's behavior is nothing short of criminal and he should have been prosecuted for it. Obviously he knows that an ethical group like the Church of Scientology would never condone such behavior so he has tried to belittle Scientology as much as possible to make the molestation of his daughters seem insignificant, Readers should not be footed by this ploy. Child molestation is a very serious criminal offense and is extremely damaging to the victims.

Way before his "fatal attraction" style fixation with the Church of Scientology, Henson displayed a history of going off on weird causes which border on the bizzare. Henson has been involved for years with a group of psuedo-scientific loons who bilk people out of money by convincing them to take out insurance policies so that their decapitated heads can be frozen for posterity in the hopes that someday science will be able to bring the person back to life as a futuristic Frankenstein. This has lead to serious run-ins with the law on different occasions. In one instance, an aging woman named Dora Kent was taken off life support systems until she was on the verge of death. She was then pumped full of drugs, had her chest cavity cut open and had an open heart massage in order to keep the blood flowing to her head so as to keep the cells alive for the decapitation and deep freeze of her head. The only problem was that according to the medical examiners and county coroner's office, Dora was not legally dead when the decapitation took place and thus began an investigation into her possible murder.

Although Henson was not present for the decapitation, he staunchly defended the members of the Alcor Foundation who were involved in the homicide after the Riverside County Coroner's Office conducted two raids into the offices of the Alcor Life Extension Foundation, looking for the head of Dora Kent and other evidence. They did not find the head, which had been frozen and stashed away, but found a cache of arms and medical equipment which came from UCLA. The County's investigation lost steam when the main medical examiner who was on the case died. Then there was the extensive illegal tunnelling which Henson did at his house in Tuscon which according to documents filed in court put his young children at risk. Henson's wife alleged that, "Due to the extensive illegal tunneling done under the house itself, as well as a leading roof and illegal electrical wiring being placed in the house by Respondent (Henson), the house could be condemned at any time for various health and safety violations by the City of Tucson."

According to Henson's neighbors who lived in Tucson near Henson, he and his then wife were into drugs and were neglectful of their children who were often taken care of and looked after by the neighbor. Henson has always been more interested in seeing, his name in print than he is in trying to do something constructive and worthwhile in his life. When he started abusing the Church of Scientology, it was forced to take action. One example of this was when Henson illegally began publishing the Church's copyrighted materials an the Internet and would not cease. This resulted in an infringement lawsuit getting filed by the Church and Henson being permanently enjoined from illegal copying and distribution of the Church's material. Henson lost the case resoundingly.

Henson also favors putting out obscene material on the Internet where it can be accessed by children. This is evidenced in statements of support which he has made to Grady Ward, a well known Internet pornographer and in statements which Henson made in the media in favor of the defendants in a criminal case against a California couple charged with peddling obscene material in July 1994. According to a news article in the Commercial Appeal on 18 July 1994 entitled: "Porn laws against computer graphics go on trial here," Henson said he considers himself a strong ally, of the defendants.

Faced with the embarassing losses in court and being enjoined from further pirating of copyrighted works of the Church of Scientology during the last few months Henson has become increasingly violent, stating to a parishioner that he would "gladly grab a torch and a pitchfork and go burn down the nearest Scientology organization" as stated in a declaration. As Henson also claims to be an expert in explosives and small bombs and due to his unpredictable behavior and outright hatred displayed on the ARS and his fixation on harassing the Church of Scientology, he has to be considered a very troubled indivdual. Because of these facts, in October 1997, a minister of the Church of Scientology, obtained a Temporary Restraining Order in the Superior Court of California against Henson due to these past threats of violence.

In a display of his obssessive nature, Henson chose to violate this injunction, not once, but twice. Both times he was arrested and had to pay bail to be released. On the second occasion, he physically assaulted the person arresting him by biting him in the arm. There was a crime report filed 26 November 97 on this. Because of this, on December 2nd. 1997, a Temporary Injunction was also issued in the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court in Florida forbidding Henson from coming near any of our Church structures due to his violent behavior.

With titillation galore, for some reason Scientology thinks the Nigerian government is interested in their usual scurrilous statements about Vaughn and Stacy.

Probably in a concessionary moment to the Moslem faith of the Nigerian delegation, Scientology sought to soften their trashing of Vaughn and Stacy by making such patently absurd statements as the following:

"This story is not an attempt to just trash the Youngs, but to provide an accurate perspective from which to understand how they arrived at the point where they abandoned their own spiritual enlightenment and turned to evil, where they now find themselves in the pay of an extremely unscrupulous attorney (who has been accused by a former associate of having sex with minor boys)."

Further attempting to justify their flagrant character assassination of the Youngs, the Scientologists wrote that "No one wishes to see the Youngs suffer. On the contrary they have been repeatedly warned against the course they have embarked upon, not because of anything the church would do, but because they are now driven by a mixture of hatred and greed and are being trapped by their own destructive acts despite the pain it is bringing to their lives."

THE TRUE STORY OF VAUGHN YOUNG AND STACY YOUNG

One of the most absurd falsehoods which Stacy Young once tearfully related to a CAN audience several years ago was that the Church had attempted to break up her marriage and was still somehow trying to do so, even while she and Vaughn Were at a CAN convention. While this makes for a great cult victim story, Stacy's story and reality are far apart. Telling a lie over and over does not make it the truth no mailer how many people repeat it, no matter how much sympathy it evokes.

Factually, Vaughn and Stacy's Young's own unfaithfulness and deceit toward each other is the real reason their marriage was failing at the time this statement was made and it would not be surprising if this same sort of thing was going on today given their long record of unfaithfulness toward not only each other, but to their friends, former spouses and family. This surely cannot be blamed on anyone but themselves. Though Vaughn and Stacy have glorified their departure from the Church for purposes of interest and to enhance their ability to entice newspapers and magazines to pay them (mainly the German publications), to any impartial observer it is certain that there is two sides to every story. The other side of the story requires one examine their history of betrayal in their personal relationships and in so doing a strong argument could be made that the real story includes the factor that Vaughn and Stacy failed to remain in the Church because they were continually dishonest with others and with themselves. When the betrayal became too great, and the Youngs lost for money overcame them, the only way to ease their conscience was to belittle, ridicule to make it appear that they were the victims.

One of the first problems the Youngs encountered while members of the Church, was when they began a relationship by sexually cheating on their respective spouses. This was hardly something which could be expected to be condoned. Trust and loyalty are among the qualities most admired by Scientologists and by many people. This quality is very important when one is helping another to reach spiritual enlightenment through auditing in the Church and it is a very important quality in any, civilized society. Despite this, the Youngs chose to begin their relationship while Vaughn was receiving basic levels of religious counselling from Stacy.

Unbelievably, the Youngs now promote themselves as "experts," yet, having sex with someone whom you are supposed to be counselling is a grave ethical violation and no "expert" would ever commit such a serious violation. If a doctor were to do such a thing, he could probably lose his license and certainly would not be considered an expert' in his field in a court of law. Looking back on it, it is certainly not unreasonable to believe that they should have been dismissed on the spot, However, the Youngs promised they would reform and that it would not happen again. What compounded this incident was that both Vaughn and Stacy were legally, married to others at the time, introducing adultery into the picture.

This story is not an attempt to just trash the Youngs, but to provide an accurate from which to understand how they arrived at the point where they abandoned their own spiritual enlightenment and turned to evil where they now I . find themselves in the pay of an extremely unscrupulous attorney (who has been accused by a former associate of having sex with minor boys).

The main point of this is simply that the unfaithfulness in their personal lives has been going on for a long time and extends through two marriages and to the people the), were once friends with in the Church. (This incident was not the first time Vaughn had committed adultery. While married to his first wife, he had several extramarital affairs with women who were also married.)

Even so, despite how the Youngs now portray with heavy bitterness what happened, they were not treated harshly by the Church over the matter but were offered help to overcome their lapse in personal integrity. The evidence shows that the stories the Youngs now tell are done to enhance their earning power in collecting fees for being witnesses in court for opposition lawyers looking to make a buck.

Instead of harsh treatment, the Youngs were given every assistance to resolve the matter. Eventually they divorced their then-partners and later married each other. Instead of learning from the harm which this sort of betrayal creates for others, history would repeat itself after the Youngs left the Church. While living high on the hog, earning thousands of dollars in witness fees for bearing false testimony, against former friends in the Church (testifying on behalf of a known lying criminal - Steven Fishman and his wacko psychologist) Stacy became involved in yet another extramarital encounter which resulted in a tubal pregnancy (not by Vaughn) which of course necessitated considerable financial expense to the Youngs, for an operation to terminate the pregnancy.

No one wishes to see the Young's suffer. On the contrary they have been repeatedly warned against the course they have embarked upon, not because of anything the Church would do, but because they are now driven by a mixture of hatred and greed and are being trapped by their own destructive acts despite the pain it is bringing to their lives.

As to Vaughn, he is also no stranger to this pattern of betrayal. Admittedly, he began his road to infidelity with prostitutes and under-age girls. His first dalliance was with a minor, with whom he had regular sexual relations for four months. To many this sort of thing sounds harmless or the tribulations of youth. However he did not stop in his Young. In another instance, while a house guest of some friends, Young regularly peeped down their young daughter's blouse at her breasts and took every opportunity to rub her back, although he was a grown man. His behavior became so evident and reprehensible, that the girl's parents threw him out of the house. The question has to be raised, what the hell was doing that has never been found out if he 'A was be I ng so blatant with his friend's underage daughter?

Flaunting Church ethical principles, Vaughn secretly continued his deviant behavior. On one occasion unbeknownst to anyone at the time, he misused his position while working on a project out of town, to attempt to seduce a 16 year-old female assistant whom he had coyly arranged to stay in his hotel room. The incident only came to light when the frightened and shaken girl reported the incident to Vaughn's superiors: "I woke up about 3 am to find Vaughn in my bed telling me he was going to rub my back He started rubbing my lower back By this time I was getting very nervous and upset and not sure how to get out of this tactfully. Then he stared to move closer to my chest and I jumped up and said I had to go to the bathroom. He made a sound as if he was asleep. When I got back he was in his bed, he reached over when I got into mine and patted me on the head.

"I fell asleep - then at 6 am I woke up again to find him next to me - again he was rubbing my back but his hand went up my shirt front. I shoved it away and told him to get in his bed and let me steep. He turned over as if in his steep and eventually went to his own bed. This time I was really scared and I didn't go to sleep for one and a half hours."

Vaughn, who was 47 years old at that time, was shown this letter from the girl and asked to respond. He claimed that she had awaken and that he was only rubbing her back to put her to sleep, however his written statement at the time belies what was really going on:

"I sat down on the edge of the bed and began to rub her back to put her to sleep. I continued to rub her back and her breathing began to grow even. My mistake was then not getting up. Instead, I laid down on my side, on the right side of the bed, popping my head up with my right hand. She was now laying on her stomachI rubbed her back and her neck for some time as I found it relaxing also. I remember laying there just rubbing her back with my eyes closed.

"As far as touching her breasts, she was on her stomach. I think twice I ran my hand across her back (I had rubbed up and down and then went from one side to the other) and then slightly down the ribs, I encountered what would be the flesh side of the breast. I did not dally on it nor did I message the side of her breast. I spent the time on her back and neck."

His flimsy explanation was not bought by his superiors, who had no other choice but to remove him from his position. His attempted molestation of one of the Church's members had been outrageous, What possesses a 47 year-old man to make sexual advances toward a 16 year-old girl who has been entrusted to help him its his assistant?

Rather than society's choice, which would have been outright dismissal or possibly jail, Vaughn chose to enter the Church's voluntary rehabilitation program. Today, Vaughn continually makes outrageously false statements about alleged hardships he experienced while doing this rehabilitation program (the RPR He of course leaves out the real reasons that he was sent to be rehabilitated i.e. he could not be trusted to keep his hands of underage girls and thus was potentially a threat to them and to himself. Perhaps the smartest course of action would have been to dismiss him right then and be done with it, but because Young wanted to remain, he was given the option of proving he could manage to keep his unethical impulses in check and to rehabilitate himself.

The real truth about the RPF, is that Young faked his way through and was never honestly doing the program. Even so, what he is saying now about the RPF is nothing like what he describes in his written report about how the program was. Youngs wrote after completing the religious counselling program which forms part of the rehabilitation program:

"so... to summarize it? -an amazing adventure into (and through) one's sell its well as another and others.

"I wish all others similar gains and knowledge -' but done easier. One is responsible for one's condition. And more. And more again.

"Pretty amazing stuff."

So the reader is not mislead, Scientology auditing is quite effective and routinely produces miracles, however it requires one's active participation and it is clear that Young was just not up to the standard of ethics needed to ensure his own advancement.

In whatever way Vaughn's perverted behavior was being held in check while he was a member of the Church, once he left and apparently the peer pressure which was acting as a restraint on his anti-social impulses came off and Young was left to his own devices.

This became evident when it was learned Young was in touch with a perverted old woman who was publishing pornography on a BBS as a way to attract men with whom she could have affairs. Regardless of his motive, Young started editing hardcore pornographic material for a woman he met on a Computer, bulletin board called "Easystreet," and whose computer name was "Redhead."

In one letter to Young, introducing him to her latest sex stories which she was asking him to edit, "Redhead" described one of these stories as "a man I was to meet and possibly have an affair with." and another as "a sex story about a pre-teen." She credits Young for restarting in her porn- story career, and wrote "the last two chapters (of the pre-teen sex story) since I have been talking to you."

Vaughn's answer was to give her his telephone number and suggest times she could call when his jealous wife was away. (Note, rather than face the consequence of engineering an encounter with another woman and getting caught in the act, Young has apparently convinced Stacy that this whole affair was actually a set up and that his lapse in faithfulness was really something which was staged by an investigator. Nothing could be further from the truth.)

Vaughn's activities are reminiscent of those of former CAN president, Michael Rokos, who resigned from his position in October 1990, amid a flurry of publicity exposing him as a pervert found guilty on the charge of "soliciting lewdness." Cynthia Kisser, who tried to cover up Rokos' criminal conviction, was the executive director of CAN at the time.

This story is only printed here to present perspective and to expose the real motives of the Youngs. Since the Youngs chose any public forum to lie about the Church of Scientology it is important to know that the are completely mercenary and only do it for money. Just ask Wollersheim: he could not get their help until he agreed to pay the Youngs $5,000 per month from the FACTNet insurance funds.

Stacy and Vaughn currently live in Seattle. Stacy says their move was motivated by family reasons and their own "Scientology affair." She even gave her husband that as the reason when she moved there ahead of him. However, it later came to light that her Northerly exodus was motivated by an affair of an entirely different nature - one which she does not publicly discuss.

Following the same "auspicious" pattern with which she launched her marriage to Vaughn, Stacy began an affair with Bob, the bosun of a cruise ship, while on a trip to Mexico with her mother. Stacy began the sexual relationship, unbeknownst to her mother, who later said, when asked about it, "That's impossible, she's married!"

Bob's account of this meaningful relationship, however, is quite different.

"The ship usually had old women on it," he said. "Stacy was on board and she wasn't wearing a wedding ring and she kept on flirting with me. When at sea you get horny, and Stacy was an available and willing piece of ass." Stacy explained she was married, but that she and her husband had an "understanding." Though she kept saying how much she liked him, Bob let her know he was only interested in a one night stand. A few months later, Stacy went to Seattle where the cruise line offices were located, pretending to be ,vorking on an article for an LA magazines She interviewed everyone at the cruise line office so that she could contact Bob again. When she did, she told him again how much she liked him. Bob paid little attention to what she said, but willingly accepted another opportunity to have sex with her in her hotel room Stacy then moved to Seattle, and Bob spent several days in her apartment. She told him she did legal work for her husband, a very successful attorney and that she earned $20,000 to $50,000 per year.

She also kept telling him how much in love with him she was, and that she had moved to Seattle just for him.

In a rare moment of honesty, she also admitted that she had become pregnant after having sex with him the first time on the ship. At that point Bob ended the meaningful relationship. The last time he saw her was in June 1994.

The story might have ended there but it did not. While the cat's away the mice will play. And while Stacy enjoyed her infidelities in Seattle, Vaughn was having yet another affair elsewhere.

Vaughn who was still living in California, took the opportunity to begin a new affair. this time with a woman named JJ, who he met at a local spa, The affair lasted for several months, and might have continued longer, had a by now upset Stacy not insisted that Vaughn move to Seattle to be with her.

Vaughn's relationship with JJ was getting too out of hand, even for Stacy. JJ flattered him and Vaughn talked about how she thought lie was the best lover and a great guy.

He claimed, however, that she was very shallow and they didn't have much to talk about. But he felt that he had the best of both worlds - great sex with JJ and intellectual conversation with Stacy.

But Vaughn was in a real bind. He didn't want to lose either one and had to lie to both. He felt JJ was getting "really close" (she wanted him to marry her - the other side of the coin from Stacy's affair!) - and though Stacy knew about his affair. he hid just how involved that relationship had become.

Stacy tried to accept all of this as a natural part of their "understanding," but in fact became very upset, as she was also aware of several other women with whom Vaughn had had affairs during the same time period.

Stacy said that she would have been more worried about JJ if she didn't think that Vaughn loved her, although she admitted being upset it away by saying that Vaughn was simply getting in touch with his feminine side, which is a phase some people go through.

Incredibly, Stacy has even given a tearful speech during which she has sought to place the blame on the Church's doorstep for her marriage being on he rocks several times even a fool can see that her own unfaithfulness is to blame for any wedge that has been driven between them. The point of this is not to embarrass the Youngs for being unfaithful, but rather to show, that no matter what it is that has gone wrong in their lives, the Youngs refuse to be responsible for the circumstances they find themselves in and to show that as a matter of personal history, they call in no way be objective about their pronouncements about Scientology or people involved in it. They can only take their own impressions and artfully and purposely twist them to make them sound as negative as possible as this is what they get paid for.

Although it is always regrettable to see any marriage in trouble, these two have created their own problems.

Minton and Jeffrey Schmidt made a lot of money through Mr. Schmidt's contacts, by helping the dictatorial leadership of Nigeria and other third world countries to successfully default on multimillion pound loans. Those who had the inside knowledge benefited in the debt trading business but, as events and statistics show, while millions of pounds are siphoned off in "commissions" and lenders had to write off huge losses, the leaders of Nigeria ignored the human suffering and misery of its citizens. Is this how men of principle act?

In the past two years, Minton has been using the wealth he ultimately obtained at the expense of the Nigerian people and other third world countries to try and suppress members of the Church of Scientology from practising they way they chose.

Minton has become a director of an anti-religious hate group along with his mistress, Stacy Young, and has shelled out over 2 million dollars to destroy religious groups. Minton deceptively portrayed himself on television and to the press to be a happily married family man while flying Mrs. Young to different locations engaging in trysts.

My university was picketed by Scientologists today.

The Fiends of Religious Lunacy, no doubt having important business elsewhere on the east coast, appear to have taken advantage of a layover in Pittsburgh (one of US Airways' major hubs) to stage a little courtesy picket in front of my building here at Carnegie Mellon.

Their timing was off. Exams were over last week, so most of the undergrads were gone. The campus newspaper had already put out its final issue until next term. And worst of all, they showed up at 11am; I am never on campus that early. So I missed my own picket. On the other hand, just the day before, I had made a posting to an internal university newsgroup mentioning that I was shown on the A and E Scientology special picketing next to Xenu the space alien. So it was kind of cool to have real live Scientologists show up on campus the very next day. Several colleagues sent me congratulatory email. Pity they couldn't stay longer; I would have liked to have met them.

There were six of them, reportedly well dressed and well-behaved, basically normal looking. My secretary went down and talked to them for a while, but when she asked them what Scientologists believe in, they wouldn't give her a straight answer. She was too polite to bring up the subject of Xenu, which she already knew about from helping me put together a poster presentation on Scientology's belief system that I gave at the.Society for Neuroscience meeting last month.

The FRL's signs reportedly said "Dave Touretzky is a Religious Bigot" and "Your Neighbor Dave Touretzky Protects Pornography". Also something about a list of aliases I supposedly use, but nobody bothered to write those down.

Some of our grad students, bored and looking for amusement, decided to have fun with the picketers. They made up picket signs of their own and joined in. Several candidate slogans were discussed, including "Unix is not Xenu", but in the end they went with:

Legalize maple leaf Canada

However, it was cold outside, and after speaking with the Scientologists for a while the students decided they were too boring to merit further attention. So they went off to find better amusement elsewhere, scratching their heads and asking "what were they thinking picketing a CS department before noon?"

The university had a police officer standing by to make sure that everyone played nicely together. Picketers are allowed on campus, and the Scientologists could even go in the building to use the bathroom, but they weren't allowed anywhere near my office.

After picketing for an hour, the Scientologists departed without incident. They had a white, unmarked van WITH NO LICENSE PLATE waiting in the parking lot. There was also another large vehicle with markings indicating it belonged to a security company. I don't know what that was for; maybe they were afraid they'd end up in a cage in one of our psych labs if they didn't bring their own security to protect them.

There were no flyers handed out. Some folks asked the Scientologists to explain why they were doing this, and got answers like "he keeps going into our churches"; the Scns also claimed that I was misinforming the public about their beliefs -- though they didn't state it quite that coherently. Since virtually everyone at CMU already knows about Xenu, this didn't gather any sympathy.

I'm not sure if anyone managed to get a picture of the Scientologists. I'm wondering if Craig Brown was among the picketing crew. If a picture exists, I'll post it.

Ron Newman, of 18 Day St., Somerville, MA, who is employed at Banta Integrated Media, 222 Third St. Cambridge, has the Constitutional Right to practice whatever faith he wishes.

However, it appears Newman does not respect our religious rights. He has been viciously attacking our religion in a cowardly fashion [through the internet]. Scientology has improved our lives and those of millions of people directly and through many social betterment programs. We feel this is a slap in our face and to the many of our professional working friends.

We feel Newman's religious bigotry against our Church, which he has never been associated with, is Un-American. The United States was founded on religious tolerance and abhors religious persecution.

Isn't it time for Ron Newman to put an end to his bbigotry?

The picture of me is from the 1979 MIT yearbook -- that's right, it's nearly 20 years old. Some OSA person actually went to the trouble of finding a copy of this yearbook and copying my picture!

They altered my picture to black out my middle upper tooth, so that it resembles the gap-toothed Alfred E. Neuman in the adjacent picture. (In real life, I am not gap-toothed, nor was I 20 years ago.)

Yes, the last sentence in the second paragraph really does read as you see it here. It's totally ungrammatical.

Everyone in the meeting was too startled to get a description of the trespasser, who apparently fled before anyone could detain him. They got a good laugh from it, but are concerned about whether he will make a repeat appearance. We'd all like to have him arrested if he returns -- take that as a warning, OSA.

When I got home Monday night, I found the same leaflet on the windshields of cars parked in front of my apartment buliding. A neighbor put a copy under my door, along with a note informing me that he had found a pile of them in the lobby of my building, which he had picked up and thrown away. A leaflet had also been taped to the building's front door.

This leaflet is nearly identical to one that was handed out on the street outside my workplace on August 14, 1998, except that the earlier leaflet didn't have any pictures and didn't mention Alfred E. Neuman. Even the ungrammatical sentence in paragraph 2 was unchanged from the earlier leaflet. That earlier leaflet was also anonymously faxed to my employer, but they didn't do that this time.

This morning, I arrived an hour early for a doctors appointment and decided to spend the time taking a walk north on Vermont, east on Sunset, south on L. Ron Hubbard Way, and then back west to the doctor's office at Queen of Angels Hospital. All was well until I started walking down L. Ron Hubbard Way minding my business, taking in the scenery. I observed on my right a bike security officer riding towards me from the parking lot which was quite full. I walked pass the parking lot and heard the guard come up behind me on his bike and slowly follow me. I turned around and said "hello".

The guard asked if he could help me and I declined. He answered with "what do you want, then?" I told him it was none of his business which he replied with calling L. Ron Hubbard Way "private property". I told the guard, "No, the sidewalk and street are city property". Then, stepping into the grass, I said "This is Scientology property", and after hacking and spitting, told the guard, "and this is snot I'm spitting on your grass." I then started walking again. The guard decided to ride his bike around and in front of me, then while with his head turned to watch me, he slowed his bike down to deliberately attempt to impede my path. I responded my grabbing his bike and shoving it away from me causing the bike & guard to fall on the grass. The guard then got up, moved back and nervously called for backup. I continued to walk as normal down LRH Way, turned on Fountain, and stopped at the small Scientologist-owned grocery store to buy a Diet Coke.

Exiting the store, I found 2 security guards sitting on their bikes watching me from across the street, whereby, I sat down on the steps of the store for a few minutes drinking my Diet Coke and returning the glares. I then slowly walked back to the hospital for my medical appointment, and then to the LAPD to report the incident.
