Subject: Vegas Picket- 1/21/98
From: teddy@skylink.net (Ted Mayett (KOX))
We arrived at the big org at 1:45pm, vehicle count was 6. We left at 2:40pm. Uneventful. They never even tried to learn who the new guy was.

Subject: Vegas Picket- 1/22/98
We arrived at the big org 3:10pm, vehicles were 13. They had rallied for us. Within 30 minutes 2 more vehicles arrived. And then a Police car with a single Officer came right next to us and drove behind the building. About ten minutes passed and we were never bothered by that Officer. Meanwhile, the clams, and maybe the cop??? were gathered right inside the door, they were looking and quite clearly talking about us. More time passed. I spot another Police car doing a slow cruise by and it turns out to be that very same car and Officer. Still we are not bothered. At 4pm we leave without ever having spoken to any of them or with the Police. And so... uneventful.
BUT. It is nice to be back in the streets again. I had forgotten just how much fun it is. The newbie clams like my Price sign. [gr]
As for the other sign, the sign carried by this other guy, I'll reveal that after they have gotten around to taking our pictures. And as to his identity... not now.

I arrive at the little org at 9:01am, the lights are off and there are no vehicles, so I grab a cup of coffee from across the street and then wait in the car. 9:17, coffee unfinished, I decide to start the picket anyway. About my third pass and Val Garcia has finally woken up and is walking around the org. Of course he sees me walking out there. 9:25 the first vehicle rolls in, it is Lasca, long time hard-core staff member. Within a minute a second vehicle rolls in, another female, this one I don't know but she does laugh at me. And now I have both women standing there laughing at me. And they do let you know that they are laughing at you. By 9:29 I am leaving just as another vehicle rolled in. So it was a ten minute picket. A picket just to let them know I am back again.
I still wonder if picking the big places like Clearwater and LA is the right thing to do. I still think that the important thing are these little orgs like mine. That when the supply of Fresh Raw Meat to the big places are cut down that they will then feed on themselves and go bankrupt. I just think that cutting off the Food Supply is the correct thing to do. They NEED Raw Meat at the big places!!!
Anyway, this ten minute picket marks the official return of the Apostate From Hell. I'm back monkeys! How does that make you feel?
(the front windows of this little org have no curtains making it easy to view the inside, the side windows have curtains that are closed. The closed curtains always indicate that someone is sleeping inside, for security a business would leave the curtains open and a light on at night.)

Subject: Vegas picket, 1/23/98, Again
It was a two org kind of day.
Little org and I opened up for a new day of business this morning, ten minute picket, basically uneventful.
Mystery man and I showed up at the big org at 3:45pm, we left at 6:05pm. Things seemed as though they could turn complicated or ugly and so we left earlier than planned. It was to be an hour long picket today. It started uneventful enough. Mary Gay #4 or 5, came out and took our picture. I told her it was about time, that it was embarrassing to post on the internet that they have still not taken our pictures, that other orgs get pictures taken within an hour or so, that my orgs look bad when it takes them so long to get around to it. She asked us to move for a better picture as the sun was behind us. We were happy to cooperate, mystery man gave her a great big smile and asked if she was happy with the pose. She was so flustered she only snapped maybe two of them while moving. (gr). As we are doing the walking thing I notice a large amount of sea org, could have been as many as five of them. I figure out that there is going to be an event tonight. Mystery and I decide to picket until the event comes and goes.
We take a short break at 5pm. We get in the car and leave, about 5:30, with the car hidden out of sight we walk back to picket again. The event is in full swing. We decide to picket until it ends... but, the time was right for leaving, so we left.
Opening vehicle count at 4pm was 11, the count while the event was in full swing was 23. No Police activity of any kind. The clams were acting kind of bold today, I suspect because of the event.
Why did it seem as though things could turn complicated or ugly? This is but the third day and they are already worn thin. Already one women was close to tears because we are out there. We spoke with none of them, we bothered none of them, mainly we just ignore them and discuss things as we walk. The mystery man is a pleasant fellow, an easy to be around and fun loving type person. I had explained to him the concept of Gandhi Tech and he agrees 100% with it. He did confess to having one special "violent" tendency though. He says that when he is driving around he likes to throw empty beer bottles at passing Police cars.

Solo picket at the little org. We were supposed to open up for a new day of business together. But oooh nooooooo. I arrived at 9:15am, they were already open. Did a ten minute picket, uneventful.
The big org was already open at 9am this morning. It seems my posts about their sloppiness has gotten results, for today at least, they opened up for business on time.
Now I don't believe they act on my posts as much as they do Tilman's. But they do act on them.

Solo dance in front of the little Temple. Arrived at 4:13pm, vehicles 6, then increased to 7. 30 minute picket. A Police car came by but never did slow down so it was probably not for me.
They have Fresh Raw Meat there, I did the first pass, by the second pass the curtains were closed. Still, some of the newbies saw my price sign. Uneventful 30 minutes.
It is nice to be picketing again. And since it is legal to picket, there is nothing they can do to stop me.

Solo picket at the big org. We were supposed to open up for another day of business together. I arrived at 8:55am, 5 vehicles were already there and the door was open. 30 minute picket, uneventful, Police passed but did not even look in my direction. What is odd though is that they give the opening business hour as 9:30am, a friend just got off the phone checking on it for me.

Subject: Vegas picket, 1/29/98
Solo, arrived at the little org at 11:40am, 3 vehicles. 30 minute picket, uneventful. No other vehicles arrived while I was there, however one of them did leave.
Police action??? It happened fast... I spot a Police car turning and there is a woman driver, then (blink of an eye) she is out of sight. But her head snapped hard when she saw me. The distance and speed was such that I could not recognize her but she may have been the Officer that had arrested me last May.
Was it you? Are you reading this? You going to arrest me again? What for this time? I'm easy to find, I'm the guy out there with the picket sign.
Still no real Police action. Every day that passes surprises me.

Subject: Vegas picket, 1/30/98
Solo, little org, 30 minutes, uneventful. Opening vehicle count was 2 and it remained at 2. Started at 11:26am.
I showed up at about the same time as yesterday in case that same Police car was looking for me. Nothing. No Police action at all.
Of the vehicles, 50% of them are staff, I know this for a fact. I'm beginning to think the remaining 50% of them are staff also.

Farewell my cyber-friend Wayne Whitney, today was for you.
It was a two org + + kind of day.
My opening maneuver was the little org, vehicles 1, 10:50-11:20am. The vehicle count held steady.
Big org 11:45-12:15, vehicles 14.
Back to the little org at 12:45pm. There were no vehicles, I go to picket anyway and there are no monkeys in the window, in fact I then notice that the lights are off. So I leave there thinking there might be an event at the big org.
Big org, 1pm-2pm, vehicles 7.
The entire day was uneventful. No Police action at all, not even squad cars cruising by. None of the clams and I spoke with each other. However, one of them, a newbie, did laugh at me while she was leaving. So she will be gone soon.
The little org is now open, they must have closed for lunch.
(end of picket report)
My first impression of Wayne Whitney was that he was a 'fruitcake', some type of lost and happy Flower Child. I spoke with him on the phone a few times and exchanged e-mails with him. As time passed I developed a strong respect for Wayne. I realized he was one of those truly Gentle people we meet sometimes. And i realized also that he had a core of solid rock to him. From all that i have learned Wayne left this plane with all the style and character anyone can possibly ever leave here with. I shall think of you often Wayne.
It was because i had spoken to him on the phone and knew his voice that I pushed so hard back in history when he was "missing". I had threatened to call in the Police. Several of his friends tried to stop me but I had told them only a call from Wayne himself would do. About one hour from the deadline i gave I had received a voice message from Wayne himself. But i would like to say this... I did believe you, his friends, I really did believe you. If Wayne had not called I would have just extended that deadline. I did not want to tell you this back then, but i tell you now. There was a solid ring of truth to your e-mails, and i did believe them.
Possibly not quite verbatim, Julius Caesar, Shakespear:
His life was Gentle, and the elements in him were so mixed
That all of Nature might stand up and say
This was a man.

Subject: Vegas picket, 6/13/98, Police Action
From: teddy@skylink.net (Ted Mayett (KOX))
It was a two org kind of day.
I arrived at the big org 1:50pm, vehicles 14. My plan was to do 30 minutes at each Temple. 2:20, just as I'm ready to leave the big org I spot a Police car waiting for the light to change, so I decide to wait and see if the car is for me. Bingo.
It was a single officer, female. As she is getting out of the car I hear her radio saying, "...you want a back-up unit?". She turns her head to respond but i hear her answer, "no, it is not needed."
Immediately I was impressed and had a great respect for this woman. She must have sized-me-up and realized she did not need back-up to deal with me. This made my day, it was one of the most flattering comments I've had in a long time!
The Officer asked what i was doing, I said, "picketing", and waited. She said she had a complaint that I was creating a nuisance. I said, "so what else is new? they complain to police all over the country when they get picketed."
This was a different type Officer than I've ever dealt with, she mentioned First-Amendmant Rights, Free Speech, things like that. She said she does not see where I am doing anything wrong. I asked for the name of the person who called in the complaint, she ignored the question. We spoke for a while then she went into the shop to talk to them. She was inside less than 5 minutes. When she came out I again asked for the name of the person who called in the complaint. The Officer just smiled, and I smiled, I was not getting that name. She got in the car, did some paperwork and drove off waving good-bye.
So now I give the Big-Beings another 30 minutes, making it an hour picket.
My Police average is improved now, they have been out three times that I know of, and I've only been arrested once. This Officer and I had discussed the Imaginary Property-Line, and the use of bullhorns. She agreed that I could legally use a bullhorn while I picket, she also said there might be something wrong with them falsely stating a Property-Line in order to have me arrested.
Little org, 4:55pm, vehicles 4.
Immediately I see Val Garcia get on the phone, and now there are three of them looking out the window and waiting. So OK, it is going to be more police action for the day, it's no big deal. Then I decide that it would be better to just leave and let the Police find nobody there when they arrive. So I pushed it to 5:04 and quickly drove off. I figure there is a minimum Police response time of 15 minutes... but you never know for sure.
I was impressed with that Police officer, she asked probing questions and gave me several opportunity's to get rowdy and nasty. Yet she closed off our "interview" by mentioning again the First Amendment.

Little org, 3:50-4:20pm, vehicles 9.
It was going to be a 15 minute picket but it has been so long since there was such a large audience there I went for 30 minutes. No Police action at all, in fact they never did dial them. I think it was because there were so many newbies there. It would not look good for the Police to come and leave and I would still be picketing.
They had closed the curtains quickly, about 3:54, but still my Price picket sign made it into the courseroom again. It is the oddest thing, newbies seem embarrassed by that Price sign. [grin]
Had my picture taken again, by Lasca again.

It was a two org kind of day.
Little org, 9:50am, I don't know why, but at 10am 1/3 of the vehicles left the org. This left the org with a vehicle count of 2. This count held steady until I left at 10:20am.
Big org 11:15-11:45am, vehicles 7. I counted 6 different staff members in that 30 minutes.

Once I carried 10 flyers with me, and gave two of them to clams. My two orgs here are not where pedestrians walk. Well pan-handlers are around the little org, but that is it.
There was a critic who did a picket with me here one time, at the big org, he had maybe 60 flyers with him. He left with 60 flyers. There is just nobody to give flyers to out here when you picket.

I believe there is a Fantastic Event happening today, about 4 vehicles arrived while I was there, staff were standing in the door looking at me and acting nervous, and the biggest clue was this: They had decorated the inside of the org with cheap colored paper, the kind of stuff used for an infants birthday party. It was just too hot to stay there though. "uneventful" means.... I'll tell it a different day.

Subject: Re: Vegas picket, 16 July 98, NOTs
From: teddy@skylink.net (Ted Mayett (KOX))
> The Las Vegas Sun reporting team arrived

This was an interesting picket. I was quite concerned about walking back and forth carrying the NOTs from the Swedish Justice Department with me. I had arranged for reporters to be present and had other "security" arrangements ready in case the reporters did not show. There was even a telephoto lens at work.
It all proved unnecessary. They never bothered me.
They were ready for me though, they had moved that yellow Dianetics sign closer to the street. This is an old trick they used to do in the past. I suppose it is time for another complaint to County Code Enforcement, this will be the fourth one on file.
They were ready for me because I had e-mailed both Helena Kobrin and Scientology itself telling them when and where I would be with the NOTs. I had given them about 30 hours notice.
Something profound happened that day.
First off it was not the easiest thing to get the newspaper interested in this. Eventually they agreed to show up. I was across the street waiting, when I saw the reporters arrive I crossed the street and started the picket. The reporters were already inside.
When they came out they did *not* even bother to talk with me, in fact I had to go after them. They did not take my picture, they did not interview me, in fact I felt like i was being humored by them so I just stopped talking. I cannot imagine what they were told to get them to react in that fashion.
Anyway, I did a short picket with the NOTs in my possession. they were in the envelope from Sweden, and the envelope was in a shoulder bag.

In a legal sense what did not happen is important, IMHO.
They never did ask me for the Package. While it is true that I would have said "no" to any request, the fact remains that they did not even bother to request them. They made no attempt whatsoever to retrieve them. I have witnesses to this.
