From: bpetty@primenet.com (BP)

We picketed from 11:00 to 12:00 Saturday. There were 11 cars on the premises.

The inmates of the local Hubbard Accredited Asylum continued the practice of sending out patients to make a formal request for us to leave. We declined as usual. No police visit this time.

During ancillary discussions with the emissaries I began telling the story of Xenu and the Marcabians, fab group from the mid 70's (75M BC or thereabouts). For the first time, one of the scienos really reacted. I do think that the royal road to extinguishing Co$ is to continually make the public aware of the Xenu-Alien-BT part of Hubbard's madness. It sure pushed this guy's button in a highly effective way. Maybe thats the crack where the light gets in.

Nearly an hour starting just after 1 pm. I think others were there earlier, but I was busy dealing with the bank, and RTC's successful grab of one of my children's savings account. (I am going to try to get it returned to her, but we all know the court involved.)

Anyway, about an hour, sprinkler tech, 42 cars. I went back in the vacant lot next door to count the cars, and later Darlene came out to warn me that she would call the cops next time I counted the cars.

Could someone take a look through the terms "trespassing" and "open fields" in the California code? I would like to be able to cite the proper section of the law when the cops come to arrest me next time I am there.

Also, going back there is getting really hard due to weeds nearly chest high and very thick. Someone with more time than I have could report the vacant lot next to 80 East Rosemary to San Jose weed abatement and get the local org cited and forced to cut the damn weeds.

Perhaps the city could also cite them for the ivy grown over into the street from excessive "sprinkler tech."
Speaking of weeds, I thought at first that some of the two feet high weeds in the parking lot might have been cut, but no, they just fell over.

One other thing, one friendly type who drove in was curious about my signs, especially Lisa. I told him some details and asked him what his level was, (clear) and if he had a net connection (yes). He was going to check out what the net had to say about scn before going any further. It will be interesting to see if I ever see him there again. Keith Henson

Three of us - Jour, phr and myself picketed the San Francisco org at lunch time today. It was lovely and sunny, if a bit windy.

The org had their 'free stress test' table out as usual. I was late (caught in 'sports-lock' - what happens in SF when there's a baseball game and a golf tourney at the same time [BMWs and pick-ups screaming at each other]) when I got there the others were already picketing. Our OSA rep soon showed up to show the flag (his boss being on TV last night might have given him a clue that we might be picketing - but actually it had nothing to do with it).

We got the usual street comments - two people came up to me and commented (positively) on the Dateline program last night. It obviously had it's effect - all this picketing over the years is starting to have an effect at the national level. Taniwha SP3*XIX

I guess so. I hit them from 2:15-3pm after the deposition in Hogan's office. Speaking of Hogan, he was not there today, just Rosen, Korbin and her ratty faced little familiar.

Rosen said something interesting when I mentioned that scn's days were numbered, he indicated that even if I might be right, *he* would personally hound me for the rest of his days.

Strangely, Rosen did not ask *any* of the questions I was expecting about the OPP, and being paid in Marcab paladium, though he did ask a number of questions about being paid in foreign currency. It will be most interesting to see if they can track down any of those who sent checks to me, because the bank assured me that unless the check bounced, there was no way to track checks cashed against my account.

For lunch break I picketed Hogan's building with a sign about Tom Hogan helping scn take money from my daughter's saving account. Noon time is a good place to give out Xenu flyers, 80 of them went like hotcakes, and a fair fraction of the people seem to have seen Dateline. Keith Henson

Lovely day... Keith did a lovely job getting attention from the people stopped at the stop light.

Three orgs for me, I started early on Rosemary. At 9 am there were only 26 cars in the parking lot. I wish someone would go by between 2 am and 5 am and get a base count of cars that are either dead or belong to live in staff.

I have not mentioned it often, but the Rosemary location is a mess. The same trash stays in the bushes for weeks, and the weed situation is entirely out of control.

: Lovely day... Keith did a lovely job getting attention
: from the people stopped at the stop light.
*Many* honks, shouts of encouragement. One woman stopped and said that she was a teenage in England when they tossed L.Ron out of the country as "undesirable." Pressed some money on me for more flyers or picket signs. That intersection is a great place to picket.

On the way back, I hit the Mt. View org for 20 minutes. It was the site of my very first picket, over three years ago. Got it just before noon at a very good time. I think they may have moved some courses out of the Rosemary location to keep them from seeing pickets, but they sure got an eyeful today.

Indeed. I might just make it a 4 org day. Keith Henson

The heat is on!!
Since the high in the "Valley of the Sun" is 105 today, we picketed from 8:45 to 9:45 this AM. Still needed sun screen and water, but the advantage is: since the street in front of the mi$$ion runs E/W, you can position the picket sign for shade on the East leg.

I do not know if it was the _Dateline_ show, but the percentage of drivers giving us the "thumbs-up" signal is increasing.

At the start of the picket, there were no cars in the lot. From about 8:50 to 9:05, 10 cars showed up, so ALL of them had to see the protest. Once again a member came out to ask us to leave. My answer today and from now on, is to ask that person to leave the Co$ and start a real life. Just asking.

Subject: SF Picket Report, June 20, 1998
From: realpch@aol.com (Realpch)

It was somewhat overcast when I arrived at the San Francisco Scientology Org, at 12:15 on Saturday. A fine day for a picket.

I had my first taste of solo picketing, as Phr who was my picket partner, didn't arrive until about 12:30. It's certainly very different picketing by oneself. I received a comment from one man that I remembered reading from one of Jour's picket reports: "Don't you have anything better to do with your time?" It was a once in a lifetime opportunity...I had already thought about my answer while reading Jour's report. "Yeah, I have plenty of better things to do with my time!" I said. "This is public service!"

Phr turned up and we did our usual pavement laps. The Scientologist crowd were Saturday casual, and once again seemed to be there for some special event or class. They didn't talk to us, tho they did take our picture. Phr claimed he could tell that they were actually using film. I hope they were, because I was wearing a brand new DKNY jacket from Thrift Town.

The only memorable event of the picket was when a little old skinny drunk man, propelled himself across the busy intersection using his rear end, his hands and his heels, somewhat like an inchworm. It took him about 5 minutes to get across. By the time he had reached the Org's front door some ten minutes later, the police and the firemen and the ambulence were there to escort him to the hospital. I think they all knew him. I suspect the Scientologists did too, and were the ones who called in the rescue forces.

I'm sick of my picket sign. I have to make a new one. As Phr and I were leaving the coffeshop which gets our post-picket business, I offered two men sitting at a sidewalk table some literature. Which they refused, until Phr said, "Oh we're against Scientology." Which confirmed my suspicion that my sign is just not blatent enough. Once again on this picket a Scientologist fellow complimented me on the side that said, "$cientology~$300,000+ for "Salvation". I guess he felt that if it cost that much, it must be good! I really don't want to use my best clothes to convince people that they too should give Scientology $300,000+ for salvation. And one side of Phr's sign said "Ask Me About Xenu". You can see how people might get the wrong idea! Peach

From: hkhenson@netcom.com (Keith Henson)

Got the week off to a good start with a one hour picket (1:15-2:15).
There were 29 cars in the parking lot.

It was a more active picket than most. A guy who was trying to get off their mailing list came by and talked to me for a while. He got ripped for over $200 when a "friend" sent him and his wife there for marriage counseling. He was one pissed off dude--though in a way it did get them more together in both detesting scientology.

There was an old lady visiting the homeless drop in place next door who is a scientologist--former staffer. Somewhat overweight, walks with a single crutch, short gray hair, talks about having been in for 30 years but only made clear (and could say Xenu). If anyone has suggestions.

On the downside, the paunchy, 40+ red haired dude (I think his first name is John, anyone have his last name?) brought two students over to the org while I was there. (He trolls for them over at the light rail stop.) I warned them it was a dangerous cult, but they went in anyway.

Ah, and someone has started trying to cut the weeds over in the vacant lot so it looks like the local branch of the arscc reported them to the city's weed control folks. "Trying" is the operative word. They have cut a 3 foot by 50 foot chunk out near the construction fence. Looks to be about 1 percent of chest high weeds. But if they cut it all the way to the back, we can count the cars without Darlene ever seeing us behind the mass of weeds.

Later this week I think I will try to do all the south bay orgs in one day (all five of them). Keith Henson

Subject: Picket Report: Salt Lake City June 23, 1998
From: mirele@newsguy.com (http://www.xmission.com/~mirele/)(Deana Holmes)

Time: From 5:35 pm to 6:35 pm
Weather: Partly cloudy, warm (probably 80s, but it'd been raining)
Traffic: car traffic heavy, foot traffic light.
Car count: none (but see below for reason why)

The Salt Lake City org is on 11th East, between 17th and 21st South. The next driveway down (about 100 feet down the street) is the exit to the Sugarhouse Post Office parking lot. In short, there's a lot of traffic.

I wanted to get there by 5:30, so as to catch all the people doing late mailing at the post office before final pickup at 6 pm. In order to do this, I had to wend my way through the neighborhood, because the main streets are seriously clogged during rush hour.

I parked on a side street, prepared my sign, and went over and began to picket. I really didn't talk to anyone, as there's not a whole lot of foot traffic, but I handed out several Lisa flyers. One of the flyers went to an older gentleman parked in a car in front of the org. It turned out he was waiting for his wife, who was inside taking services.

There were a couple elementary school age children playing in the org's foyer. They stayed there for awhile, then they were hustled off upstairs. I saw one little kid peering through the blinds from one of the upstairs windows.

At one point, a little OSAette in training showed up and took my picture with a Polaroid camera through the glass. I hammed it up for the shot. I might say, they might want to get more film.

Because the org sits on this main thoroughfare, I strictly stuck to the part that fronted on 11th East. Their building extends down a side street, and the parking lot is behind it. I never made it back there. However, I found out that car counts in that lot could be inaccurate, because the lot is shared amongst the org, and several businesses in a building right next to the Post Office. One of the guys from one of the businesses came down and talked to me, and I gave him a Lisa pamphlet. What got his attention, he said, was my Lisa sign, which says:

Young. Pretty. DEAD
1959 [picture of Lisa with L11 cert] 1995
Did Scientology kill Lisa?
www.scientology-kills.net

The other side of my sign said:

$cientology: Church of the Holy Law$uit
www.xenu.net

I had been out there about half an hour or so, and traffic was starting to thin out, and I was thinking of leaving, when a public Scn came out of the building. She walked with me for another half an hour, and we talked about the things that bugged me about Scn. She said she'd seen the Dateline program, among other things. She knew the standard line about Lisa McPherson, which was that she'd died of a pulmonary embolism. I told her that Scn had told more than one story, and mentioned the "fast acting staph infection". I told her I didn't like the RPF, I thought the Purif was a danger to one's health, and that Scn's stand on mental health was wrongheaded. I told her I didn't like the church harassing people, and yes, I made a point of reminding her that yes, they had picketed me.

She made her points too, but I think we agreed to disagree. At the end of it, we shook hands, and I told her that I'd probably be back to picket. I have to confess, that was probably the most open and non-confrontational conversation I've had with a Scn since I first got into this.

All in all it was a successful picket, I thought. Deana

I stopped by after work today and picketed from 5:15 to 6:15. Traffic was very heavy and, as it was rush hour and 104 degrees, not very responsive.

There were 8 cars at the start and one new one at about 5:30. A motorcyle was added at 6:00.

A yellow cab pulled into the lot to discuss the picket, and I was soooo glad to stick my head into the air conditioning for a few seconds and give him the lowdown on the Co$.

Another car turned in and the driver, a shaven headed young man with multiple rings in his ear, lip and eyebrow marched in to get some Co$ literature, because he was offended by my picket and my "straight" appearance. I warned him that the Co$ was the most conformist group on the planet. I hope he takes the first TRs, it could be interesting. BTW, does anybody know of any long term scientologist with piercings, etc. Every upper level member that I have seen tends to tweed, cordouroy, sweaters, leather elbow patches and dickies. The women all seem to wear business suits or full skirts. This does not include the show-business types, of course.
