======== Subject: Picket Report, Canberra, 30/9/99. From: Goombaj@hotmail.com (Goombaj) Date: Fri, 01 Oct 1999 10:35:14 +1000 Message-ID: Don't know if one has already been done,(or if it has, the server here didn't pick it up). On the 30/9/99, Fier, Xemuson and Goombaj picketed the Canberra Org from midday to about 1:30 pm. About 100 flyers were handed out. The clams were pretty unresponsive, and didn't engage us in direct conversation unless it was forced upon them.Instead, they wandered around with a petition, asking people if they knew of any sex offenders, or something like that.(I didn't go up for a look, so Fier or Xemuson will have to cover for me there). There were only 2 of them out for all of the picket, (with petitions), and another came out towrds the end with the Dianetics leaflets, (I believe this was the clam that wanted Fier to "Punch him in the face" at the first picket this year. There were a couple of notable discussions, one with a "freezoner" of sorts, and some guy who we thought may be a clam form oversea's.(had an accent, told us he was trvelling, hung around us, or near where we were picketing, and asked some strange questions:-But Fier can fill you in here, since he talked with them the most), plus some guy who was studying at the org came for a chat, took a flyer, but another clam coame from the org, and took him away.(He kept the flyer for as long as I could see, but he did spend a while chatting with the clam and the guy with the accent. The cops went passed twice, and the second time they went passed, the gave us a slight grin. Overall, most people either were supportive of what we did, took a flyer, or didn'nt give a toss. --Goombaj ======== Subject: Re: Picket Report, Canberra, 30/9/99. Yep, we seem to have settled on the "$pace alien $cam" flyer, as it is very well written, compact, and covers many important topics. Our signs were "$cientology wants your money ...all of it" (thats my favourite sign now) and some others we've had before, plus Mr Xemuson made one "$cientology says it can cure cancer - TOTAL CRAP" WITH THE REVERSE "L Ron Hubbard Lied to You". The first side also had "I am NOT a $cientologist" on it. > >The clams were pretty unresponsive, and didn't engage us in direct >conversation unless it was forced upon them.Instead, they wandered around >with a petition, asking people if they knew of any sex offenders, or >something like that.(I didn't go up for a look, so Fier or Xemuson will >have to cover for me there). >There were only 2 of them out for all of the picket, (with petitions), and >another came out towrds the end with the Dianetics leaflets, (I believe >this was the clam that wanted Fier to "Punch him in the face" at the >first picket this year. Yep, we hadn't seen him since then, he was probably in an OSA/PR related ethics Cycle, for making his cult look so hostile, stupid and nasty. As he has come up the conditions, he is doing an amends project, of handing out their propaganda. Am I wrong? Maybe, hehe, but at least he isn't such an abusive harassing moron anymore. >There were a couple of notable discussions, one with a "freezoner" of >sorts, Yep, the very same "Gobwiz" who might have been known on here, or more likely act. I had to killfile him after he didnt state his own views on $cn, and it's lies, and defended their verbal personal attacks on the grounds they didn't harm me. Well, each to their own. I didn't appreciate it when at the picket, he generalized all our arguments to be biased, nonfactual, misleading and motivated by extremist irrational viewpoints. I think he just likes to argue over everything, it's not like him and I got along great when I was purif I/C and he was Purifee, but I do respect his right to entertain different opinions. > and some guy who we thought may be a clam form oversea's.(had an >accent, told us he was trvelling, hung around us, or near where we were >picketing, and asked some strange questions:-But Fier can fill you in >here, since he talked with them the most), Beats me who he is, time will tell, since he hung round the picket for at least 40 minutes, and has initiated an email about the picket since then. >plus some guy who was studying >at the org came for a chat, took a flyer, but another clam coame from the >org, and took him away.(He kept the flyer for as long as I could see, but >he did spend a while chatting with the clam and the guy with the accent. >The cops went passed twice, and the second time they went passed, the gave >us a slight grin. One lady said she could get the TV Cameras here, if we wanted them, so we said yes, but when a station crew turned up they did a story on some other crap, then said they have no time, when asked if they wanted to do one one us. "Okay, we will be here next week though!!" were the parting words they heard. >Overall, most people either were supportive of what we did, took a flyer, >or didn'nt give a toss. A sextet of suppresives, a record for the year!! About 230 flyers, (Space alien scam, insane cult, Xemu, and one of Xemusons creation) were handed out. Xemuson and Goombaj ran into each other in the library before the picket, and who should they meet, but Lara, (OSA), poking through the Newspaper, unitl she came over and said hello.A bit later, Anna strolled past, clipboard in hand, and also stopped in for a chat. It was at this time, that the picketers saw the table that was being set up outside the org. Xemuson and Goombaj then decided it was time to start the picket.A sign was grabbed from the store nearby, and flyers started to be handed out.One of the 'New' clams came out to handle us, resulting in Xemuson going over to chat with him, which, in turn, let to the poor clammy walking back to the Org in shame.(Some of the crowd actually sledging him as he walked off, you had to be there!). At about 12:10, Fier bounded up, bearing three signs, and a pile of flyers. A few minutes after Fiers, arrival, his sister and mother appeared, keen for the picket. With 5 picketers, (4 w/signs, and one taking photo's), the clams appeared to take it a little harshly, and poor old Jamie(the afforementioned handler), joined us with an inferior sign, covered in gibberish.(One side said somethng about an 'axalotl', and I cannot recall what the other side said) The usual Clams were present, (Anna, Lara, Jeanette(?), plus others who I can't remember) but as an extra suprise, there was not one, but two sea ogres,(One I'd seen at my first picket, while the other I hadn't seen before), who were present at differing times during the picket. Also about the place were 'Kiddie Clams', who spent most of the time hiving out ballons.I'd guess there was a dozen or so about the place. The Sea Ogre and Lara seemed to become a little Enturbuated when the word 'Xenu' was mebtioned near them.(I'll let Fier or Xemuson extend that part Throughout the picket, Lara was busy with here two camera's, and scribbling in here little book. The reception of the public was extremely good, with most either taking flyers, or congratulating us. Things went on pretty smoothly for the rest of thr picket, with picketer alternatiin between 'Cult Corner', and strolling down past the table outside the org. At the end of the icket, when some christian guy came up for a chat, Lara came up to berate us, (a first for a couple of pickets), but I wasn't paying much attention to it, as I was chatting to a guy I knew when he was a student. On the side, after we left the picket, we discovered a discarded "Psychiatry destroys minds" booklet on a bench, which Goombaj is about to flick through. Aside form that, I'll leave it up to Xemuson and Fier to add thier bits to the report. --Goombaj
