======== Subject: Picket Report SF, thursday From: philscott88@my-deja.com Date: Thu, 16 Sep 1999 21:25:22 GMT Message-ID: <7rrn7k$dk$1@nnrp1.deja.com> I was in SF on business today and stopped by the SF org on McAlister street for 15 or 20 minutes, maybe 30 minutes. Right around Noon. I had my 'Did Scientology kill Lisa" sign (both sides) no fliers. Two or three publics were out front on break, 3 or 4 staff, two women dressed in SO blue skirts and white blouses, one very young and blond the other a bit older. I parked by spectacular chrome yellow and white truck with the the logo, my name on it and two phone numbers half a block away. No space in front of the org. The cult members were out of break and I talked to a few, the staff was sullen, the public was 'reasonable'. (ooops send em to ethics)..one black woman, professionally dressed, hip and smart looking about 35... I just told her that the cult wasn't what it appeared to be, and if she ever got to feeling burnt to just do a slow fade out for a day or so, and do some serious investigation on the web ,and at the libraries before going back in.. I wished her well, and told her that it appeared to me that she would do well in life. She said thanks. I think arnies new remark "its worse than you think" is the best line so far, it gets past the notion that the person has... that its all innocent... because all they can see is the newbies at the mission or orgs..who have no clue themselves... so indeed what they can *see* is NOT bad. We need to point that out I think. The front end looks good, but it gets nasty the closer you get to the top, especially for staff.... point out the nature of the conn so to speak. Truth and decency. I think it is vital that one remain truthful, decent and caring at all times. Its becomming really apparent to me that when I am just myself, and say calmly the truth, and advise them that I do understand their position, but that there really IS something to look at it.....'its worse than you think'.... they as beings, inside, can see that one is not really an SP, or dicreditable...and what you say really sinks in... A decent looking, kind, truth telling picket is the cults worst nightmare. Being noisy or raucus, or disrespectful only serves it seems to discredit the message, and the messenger....it blinds the recipient to the fact that you are a decent person a caring human being who really is telling them the truth. One learns a lot picketing alone sometimes it seems...with someone else there is this distraction. the picket is more effective in a group I think, but alone one sees the real deal. If one does do something 'controversial' if done in sober fashion, with respect...and decency, that too gets the message across also. and there may always a time and place to lay a real good rasberry once and a while. That says something too, especially as it is founded in what I can determine to be a real hard core agenda of truth, decency and friendship in the arscc, ( and connected international associations. rotten plots, and limited partnerships world wide). The public sees that too... decent people out having fun at the expense of a rotten cult. That too seems to be appropriate.
