Kates Date: 19 Sep 1999 10:26:29 -0700 Message-ID: <7s36c5$2f67@drn.newsguy.com> I finally arrived for my first Org picket, in DC, at 3 PM last Sunday, the 12th. Leaving the Dupont Circle Metro station, I searched around Connecticut Avenue for my fellow picketers (through two Starbuckses, several restaurants, in front of the Org and in front of the OSA office) before finally discovering them at the Xando coffee shop by the Org. I saw Arnie, Scott, and all the other picketers (I'm not sure which ones of them want their names or nicks used), before we all grabbed signs and headed over to the Org. When we got there, I was greeted by Sylvia Stanard and Thierry Douchanac, who accused me at great length of somehow "betraying" them, and "stabbing them in the back." They were my friends, they said, they tried to help me, and so on. No matter how many times I explained that I was not fighting them as individuals, but CoS as an institution, they reiterated the same accusations. They said I was attacking their religion, when I countered by discussing Scn's not-very-"religious" actions against its critics, Sylvia stated that Scn wasn't just a religion, but a corporate body. Thierry came up close taking pictures of me as I spoke with Sylvia at length about why I was there, why I felt the need to picket, why I did not feel I was personally attacking them, and so on. Sylvia tried the classic "good SP/bad SP" approach that seems reserved for new picketers, telling me that "Lerma is a loon, but why are you here? You seem intelligent..." She called Donya over (whose house I stayed at while in DC picketing the Enquete Commission) and asked her if she thought I was stabbing her in the back. I know the whole thing was designed to make me feel guilty about being there--I think Sylvia and Donya and even Thierry know that I certainly don't hate them, that I am not picketing them as individuals, despite what they said. And no matter how much they discussed *my* "stabbing them in the back," they couldn't account for the picket of my house with large signs saying "Charlotte Kates : Religious Bigot." Now *that's* a personal attack! Sylvia and Thierry accused me of infiltrating Scientology, of coming in to "steal the mailing list" (ah, that famous mailing list), because I *went to an AFF convention after leaving Scn*! (An AFF convention, btw, that was all of 15 minutes from my home). All in all, I was there for 2 hours, carrying a sign, and speaking with OSA just about the entire time. Sylvia, Donya, Thierry: if you guys weren't in OSA, I'd hope we still *could* be friends. But as the situation is, I know we can't. Things, however, can always change. And I'm not picketing Scn for myself, but for the people outside, so they learn the truth, and the people inside, so they see there *is* another side of the story. You will note that it has a deliberately "biased" slant to it. Why? Because I am attempting to address a faction I have observed on the Internet, of "reactionaries", who while seemingly are of high intelligence and noteworthy educational standing, like I, in my youth, are capable of seemingly endless criticism of conditions surrounding themselves and the rest of humanity, but do nothing, to contribute a remedy to bring about constructive change to our society. While aboard the U.S.S. Bennington, then Flagship for the 7th Fleet, during the early years of the Laotian & Vietnamese "police actions", I met a fellow poet, named "Patrick Henry" McElroy. It was Patrick Henry who "busted" me on being a reactionary> Patrick Henry didn't just write things because he was brilliant, as most of you out there are, Patrick wrote because he wanted his writing to help change conditions in life for the better. He knocked me right out of my self-centeredness, and right into participation in making things better for everyone. He could write: "It's black against white, yellow against red, . . . the whole world hates, the Jew." Patrick's work always gave a solution to the problem he wrote about. Patrick didn't die in Vietnam, like so many of our brothers, he died at the hands of street punks, trying to get them to understand that it was the L.A. police egging the gangs on against each other, so they'd kill each other and the police wouldn't have to bother with them. Gone, yes, forgotten, no! He may not be here today to be fawned and adored by people for his brilliance and wit, but he has the respect of those of us who knew him, for being willing to stand up and do something, even at danger to his own life. I'm sorry, but I can't say the same thing about a number of you on IRC and ARS, and I'm not talking about the deluded Scientology trolls, in the throws of electronically stimulated bliss from the e-meter. I'm talking to those of you who have intelligence and skills, god-given gifts that you waste in idle chatter on the Internet, trying in vain to acquire an identity acceptable to others. When a well meaning, but not too bright OSA agent, began questioning me on the picket lines yesterday. He asked: "Why are you doing this?" I replied: "For the pure pleasure of it." He said pleasure, what pleasure? To which I replied, the pleasure of taking shots at a Church who killed my friends. I pointed my "Scientology Hates Free Speech sign at him. He turned red and walked away. He never approached me again. Sylvia Blackheart and a friend later approached me, in my "Scientology Kills" T-shirt. She said "You're Scott? I heard you were on a ship. She's so OT she didn't remember a similar conversation at the McPherson rally in Clearwater a couple of years earlier. So much for the clearing course and "total recall". I commented that she hadn't been very well briefed, to which, in typical OSA misdirection she replied. "Don't turn that sign so fast, I haven't finished reading it. I laughed, as "Why doesn't Scientology Have Love in its Tone Scale, is about 6th grade poor student reading comprehension. I said, don't worry Sylvia; there are Scientology courses that will handle that. As the two of them gasped momentarily, I stated. You know Sylvia I just don't see the quality of help that we used to have in Scientology years ago. Her friend, couldn't help herself, and burst out in a wide grin. Could she have known something about Sylvia that was so true, that she instantly recognized the truth of it, in spite of her religious convictions? At that I grinned and walked across the street to a table in the shade while Sylvia, and her friend were left alone to defend the Org's sacred corner while their Lilly white skins, apparently unused to walking in the light, baked in the sun, whilst we sipped iced coffee and just felt good about being there. What I'm trying to get across to you is the concept that when you put down the fear of consequences to your own life. You finally begin to live! There is a huge amount of joy in knowing that whatever happens, your creator, not your supposed peers, know what is really in your heart. The fear of death flees with the act of walking in love and good will toward your fellow citizens. Instead of skulking, safely in the background, fearing to really live, hiding from the "Deb'l", because you secretly fear that evil is stronger than good." Hell, you're practically dead already. Why do you think we call those Scientology Internet moles, skulkers? Why do you suppose that OSA members only pick on newcomers to the picket lines and fight against Scientology? Its really because they know that We Know, they have no substance as "OT's". We know that they are consummate liars, trading real life and livingness for another blissful electron implant "session" on the cans. If they stay on us too long, we know how to get to any light still left in them. One would think that an OT III, "free from overwhelm", could confront and in their best Tone 40 command "Devil Get Ye Gone" to mere suppressive persons such as us. But I tell you of little faith. Evil is not stronger than good, and could you but put down your fears and join in the party to wake the world up to the pathetic attempts of tiny little fearful beings that need to control the whole world politically and economically just to have an identity, you too would feel the joy of the anointment by your creator, and the satisfaction that being a good citizen brings. We're not just picketing Scientology, we're attempting to bring fellow citizens to the realization that they need to stand up to those who must control others through mind control, brainwashing and terrorist acts, in order to steal our hard earned money and freedoms under our constitution. We start with Scientology, because it is now the worst of the lot, and we instinctively know its true nature. To those of you out there who use your brilliance to misdirect others into believing that you are of substance and are to be reckoned with, cute, but no cigar! I know that you will strike back at me, in feigned outrage against my indirect challenge to your transparent "social demeanor". I know that my words make you cringe inside, and the narrow escape from being caught at it will result in masterful critiques defending your inaction. However, your continued inaction will speak for itself. Personally, I welcome your critiques, as first of all they mean nothing to me, and secondly, and most importantly, they speak volumes as to your real character and the real citizens out there need to know who you are.
