They still remember that in Switzerland two lead Scientologists were
convicted of taking financial advantage of a mentally handicapped person
in 1987 (http://cisar.org/870610a.htm).
A man had suffered brain damage in an automobile accident. He received a
large sum of money as a result of the insurance settlement, and he was
living off a fund set up to give him so much per month. He was pretty bad
off and was working at the labor center for the mentally handicapped.
As soon as the Scientologists found that out, they ruthlessly set about
separating him from his money by telling him he would improve and be able
to get a job because of Scientology. The only reason they were caught is
the man told his mother and she put a stop to things real quickly, however
they still had to sue and there was a big court case.
This is a good case to read for anybody who thinks that Scientology might
be a charitable organization.
