After a brief breakfast at one of our citie's finer establishments,
the Angered_Bovine and I proceded to the corner of 13th and W.
Peachtree, directly opposite the large windows of the Corporation of
Scientology.
It was a lovely day, the sky filled with big fairweather cumulus
clouds. A pleasant breeze took the edge off a warm sun, and gave a
little lift to our signs as we held them for all to see. My sign
said "Scientology; 48 years of FRAUD", and the on the other side
said "Scientology: Tax-Exempt UFO CULT". Mad_Cow had his usual
multi-sign(R), but got immediate results with one that said
"Scientology is a SCAM!" Within moments of beginning our picket we
had received several honks and thumbs-ups. Mad_Cow also had a fresh
t-shirt with "I am not a Scientologist".
We began picketing pretty close to 11:30. There was a steady stream
of pedestrians, and many spoke with us, asking about the cult, or
telling us that they already knew all about 'them wackos'! A lovely
older woman from Russia asked me what was an 'ufocult'. I was
tempted to answer 'a big pendulum for proving that the earth spun on
its axis', but thought better of it. Mad_Cow talked with her
and her companion for several minutes, and made sure they had one of
the 'flyer-paks(R)' (in beautiful day-glo green) we had with us. It
seems they were quite aware of cultism, and rather horrified by it.
I doubt the scam will ever see any of their money.
When we first arrived there was one man standing in the doorway,
dressed in a blue denim outfit that looked like a Jackson's costume
from the early seventies, smoking a cigarette. He watched us for a
couple minutes, and then nearly ran up the stairs to the Scieno's
part of the building. We saw little more traffic right then; a
woman came around the corner, stared at us for a moment, then went
upstairs. I saw her in one of the large windows a short time later,
and several times thereafter, along with one or two others. They
watched us very carefully, but looked away whenever they saw me
looking at them. They never sent out a handler.
As lunchtime neared, I counted about 6 or 7 scienos coming out of
the org, apparently headed for food. A few went to the Mexican
restaurant across the street; all returned quickly, and hustled into
the building, carefully ignoring our picket. We did not see Diane or
Susan. We did see the woman who took our pictures at earlier
pickets, but she also refused to acknowledge our presence. That was
okay; there were groups of people on their way to and from lunch
almost the entire time we were there, and almost every group had at
least one person encouraging us on. One pair of nicely dressed young
businessmen told us to 'Give them hell!' A young woman coming out to
her car in the parking lot refused our flyer-pak(R), saying that she
was from L.A., and knew all about those jerks. I heard a comment
from amidst one group; " 'Free personality and intelligence test?"
How stupid!" I guess they were reading the sign in front of the org.
BTW, there was a help wanted sign in the window there. Yeah, as if!
Final accounting: several flyer-paks(R) handed out, much good will
for the cause generated. We left about 1:30, feeling that we had
done our bit well, and looking forward to more pleasant visits with
our friends in the cult.
'Til next time;
Wynot
The Few, The Proud, The Banned;
2x on the Scieno-nanny.

Pickets are the one thing that Scientology hates the most because
they can't lie to their members about it, atleast to the ones who
see it.. They can't demonstrate their OT abilities and 'postulate'
people away using Tone 40, which invalidates them. This is a direct
confront to their great powers and is what they hate the most and
all the lies they tell their members is only a picket away from
revealing itself.
