======== Newsgroups: alt.religion.scientology Subject: Vegas Update - Yellow Tent From: Ted Mayett Date: Mon, 02 Feb 2004 06:08:05 -0800 February 1st, 2004. A Sunday, I go that morning to take more pictures of this filth pile called The Church of Scientology Nevada. On the front door is a new poster, it is advertising an Event for January 31st, to be held at this org. (the big org in Las Vegas). Now I read this, and it doesn't register with me at the moment, it doesn't click in my head exactly what it is I am reading. So, I take a few pictures of the poster, and they come out lousy. This camera of mine is just not a good one, it rarely captures text well. So I take a few pictures, get back in the car, and drive around to the back of the org. And there I see a bright Yellow Tent. Wow. This thing is *totally* hidden from view from the main street. You cannot see this tent, or any portion of this tent from the main street. I take some pictures and drive away. This is about 7:30am. About an hour later it occurs to me what is wrong with all of this. And now here are some facts that most people would not notice because you are not the one out there taking the pictures. February 1st was a Sunday. The Saturday before, was January 24th. I had went to this org on the 24th to take pictures. On the 24th, there was no poster on the door advertising this event. I would have noticed such a poster because I ALWAYS look for posters on the door. So there was no poster on the 24th, and the event was held on the 31sth. This means that there was less than one week of advertising for this 'Planetary Salvage Crusade'. hmmm, this is interesting. I do an online search though my local newspapers here and find no advertisements for this Event. So, there were no newspaper advertisements, at least not in the two major newspapers here. And the poster, which we know was up less than a week, was only for foot traffic. The poster is too small to be read from a car passing by. In fact, even if you were walking past this org, you could not read that poster without going right next to it. You could read part of it if you were walking past the org, but not the Date and Location for this Planetary Salvage Crusade. And now it is about 10am, and I call into this org and ask about this event. I ask, "is it over, did I miss it?" I'm told that the event will be held again today (sunday feb 01) after the sunday service is over. I ask when the service will be over. The guy is not sure. I ask when this VM event will start. The guy is not sure. I say, "well sunday service does start at 11am, correct?". The guy says yes. So we discuss it a bit, in a very friendly fashion, and come to an agrement that if this Event does not start at 12pm, then it will surely have started by 12:30pm. I have him mark me down as a Confirmed, and we hang up. I arrive again at the org about 12:15p, vehicle count 11. Cars leave, cars arrive. To sit in plain view of them, on a deserted street, and to not be noticed takes about 30 minutes work. Eventually I am able to walk past the event and they are not paying any attention to me. About 1pm vehicle count is 17, there is a speaker inside the tent standing at a podium, and there are 10 people seated as an audience. In my opinion, everyone there was a member. There were not any new publics, there were not any new people at all. In my opinion, this was a show, a farce, an example of them 'singing to the choir'. Why wasn't this Event advertised at least one week in advance? Perhaps this is because of me. This may be the reason, and then it could just be the typical incompetence we witness in scientology. The table with the two chairs would have been for two people and in theory these two people would have greeted and directed the crowds of people who would arrive. Well nobody arrived. How could they arrive? There was no advertisements for this. Why wasn't this Yellow Tent set up in a Park or a supermarket parking lot, or anyplace where it could have been seen? I think it is because it costs money to rent space. They do not have the money for this, so they hid the tent in the back of the org. And they put up a poster that could not be read except by foot traffic, and not even by foot traffic, not really. A critic and I discussed this on the phone at length, and came to the conclusion that the 17 vehicles represented ALL, or close to all of the current scientologists in Las Vegas, Nevada. We reasoned that they would have demanded that everyone show up for this Event. That if by chance some new public were to come by, that it would be important that there be some people already at the Event. Meantime, orgs in Australia, Germany, Canada, all over the world will hear about, or read about this Planetary Salvage Crusade that was held in the city of Las Vegas, Nevada. They will clap and cheer over the success of this Event. But we know better, we have pictures and my report. This Event was a waste of time, and that is all. A bright Yellow Tent was set up in the back of a filthy and broken down org, on an oil soaked parking lot, and totally hidden from public view. And this org, and this Event, is scientology today. -- Ted Mayett OT 1.1 http://www.solitarytrees.net/pickets/links.htm
